The stiff Dubai is doing is really amazing, also i've heard (i'm sure you did that too) that Saudi Arabia is planing to build 1 mile height tower. As i have said, that't amazing indeed, but why not to invest such a huge amount of money to science development?

Those countries want to look interesting for the rest part of the world, so in that way those countries would reach it and also it would be much more useful for the humanity.

What is it about the whole project of building the highest building ever, that you can not see as scientific leap????? We can just imagine how in future time these innovations and engineering marvels of the burj will benefit the common market and the standard of our high culture.

the about the humanity thing......common!!!
haven´t we had enough of this "I am gonna save the world with my comments" theme that has been going on.

So Giedrius_LT we have all the money to solve humanities problems? There is always going to be the sick and the poor no matter how much money you pour into things. So lets just enjoy the amazing things humanity can do, like building this fantastic structure!

It will have impact of engineering development, but, for the first, it's not direct impact, for the second, building different kind of structures requires different engineering and this will impact only skycrapers engineering (most). Also, this is not the most important stuff for science.

But you are right, there is no must, they can decide where and how to use their money on their own.

If our opinions don't match, still the irony isn't needed here

This thread is not the very best for a discussion like that, so i won't continue. Don't be mad for those two posts, just wanted to tell my opinion

Have a good time.

I double that: the recent pics once again are amazing (both close-ups and panoramas). Muchos grazias.
But my favorite among them is this: http://i32.************/35i6594.jpg, where you can add two more rising towers, that might end up as supertalls: HHHR Tower and Al Yacoub (in the center of the pic). Oh, and let's not forget the two Emirates Towers, so there are 10 supertalls all in all !! Although the most beautiful IMO is Parkplace, as a starter to the left. With "only" 234m, it's a bit overlooked in Dubai, but it would be the ruling building in most cities on earth...

Does anybody else think Burj Dubai would look better with twin antennae/spires, like 7 South Dearborn that was proposed a few years ago?

Definitely. I can picture what shaun has in mind (I think), but I really don't think it would fit all too well.

How comes? I think BD tapers a lot more which is nice, but maybe if the antennae were placed on a lower tier - say, when the concrete structure finishes - then it could work. Less tapering may mean that it didn't reach 819m though.... with twin spires, could probably go to 705m?

One argument against twin spires is that the footprint is Y-shaped, meaning it looks more natural to taper towards one point, rather than two. On which wings would the two spires sit? The top left and top right? Or top left and bottom? Or top right and bottom?

Other than that, I think it might be quite nice.

One question for the forum´s info-gods (you know who you are)
Has there been anything that indicates that the plans we have have been slightly changed?? is it still all according to the drawings you have??

just curious, and my overview of the whole project isn´t that good to find out myself
