guys, try not to triple post or post unrelated material. or post articles about fantasy projects, just stick to subject, which is construction of burj dubai.

@blacksmith, thats interesting. the 7th steel section which rose to 630m consists of levels 162 and 163. the 8th section now starting should be 164 and 165 ? unless the levv162 is whole of 7th section

venhenrick-no you have it about 775m it needs to be 12mm more as measured on screen.
fury-good find. the last shot shows just how small the upper steel floors are.

yes the current highest is indoor spacedeck of CN tower at 447m.
the Burj dubai deck will be on lev124 which wil be 442m high, indoor and will boast an outdoor terrace as well which is roof of tier 11.
i think the upper levels of burj dubai may be accessed by vip parties.but you will have to walk up 40 floors to reach tier27 or 786m.
Also tier22 or the 701m level or level 185 will a popular floor. It is roof no4 and is highest "habitable" floor. this may end up a vip observatory? just 23 floor climb from lev162.ha

Thanks ...V.I.P - OB Deck - tier 27 @ 786m sounds *giddy*.....hope the passes come with complementary parachute

P.S Flick me a V.I.P pass when you receive them from Emaar.....Oh!,Have I let the cat out of the bag!?

What is the square footage of these first set of steel floors? The steel structure looks extremely solid and well put together.

theres 21 more 6m high steel sections to go on.so far only 7. yes they are the larger ones and as it goes up the sections get smaller but i think its a while before top out.
each section has been taking 1 week, so 21 more sections = possible 21 weeks or 5 months? but if they get quicker due to there size, maybe will take half that time? say july sometime?
tommyzion. thats an old design. the top section is now more complicated and spire is huge compared to a stick.it starts at 2.1m dia and then 1.5m and finally 1.2m with 1.5m ring on top.
look at my diagram and see if you can emmulate it.
cheers

I still think they should add 3 EXTERIOR scenic glass elevators to the inside faces of the core exterior(like where the construction lifts are)!! THAT WOULD BE AN AWESOME RIDE TO THE TOP!! I wonder why they didn't think of that?

Building deflection doesn't work that way. Halfway up it will deflect less than one quarter of the total at the top. So, say 300mm.

But anyway, the design sway is under design wind load...maybe for a 1:50 year wind (for serviceability). The building natural frequency would be such that the sway would occur at very low speed, so accelerations would be minimal. You would barely feel it.

Sorry to put this thread off course (me now wanting to be a regular participant in this thread) as I am sure my question has already been addressed in this forum, but I was wanting to know, how many permanent residents will be able to reside in the tower upon completion? Evidently it has a hotel, so numbers in that regard will always fluctuate..but I am wanting to know about capacity. What does it offer capacity-wise that other supertalls don't?

Add to that the time it will take to install the spire mechanism. Burj won't be topped out until the spire is raised to its full height.
