Even if build, It will not be 1 km tall, same as the Solar Tower in Australia that was downgrated to just 600 meters.

the planned solar towers have been scaled down in Australia to 600m. there are some planned for Spain which are 750m.even California desert and China, but not sure if they will go to 1km. The project seems to be moving very slowly. they need $$.
The solar towers resemble chimneys but only hot air will rise up them not smoke. the stacks will be approx 65m dia and 1m thick.
and all free-standing.
anyway back to burj dubai.
venhenrick- the higher crane will come soon and one of the current cranes will go.

Great shots Fury, I like more!
Why is there so little interest on the MEP? 45 MW of Chillers...i think it´s a lot for one building...one percent increase in the efficiency means...don't tell the IPCC

Whats on the first, second and last pic? I can't really identify.

Hopefully they have realised that the cladding was going too fast and the steel was going too slow, and are putting more people on the steel, they certainly have sped up recently on the steel.

People wouldn't go to see a super tall solar tower, eventhough it 's also an engineering archievement , but it is not glamourous enought to draw people's attention like an habitable tower

The two aren't really related, different contractors with different personnel.

The only co-relations between the two would be the shared usage of the cranes or of the storage space at the bottom, which I don't think are such a big deal at the moment.

About these solar towers, it will take some gooood time before they go up, and IF some of these proposals happen to get higher than the burj, then it will probably already been past by some other süpermegascraper so it wont be ruining any of burjs glory anyway-

and as someone mentioned that the solartowers all being freestanding the render there on top of the african one seems to have some sort of cables in there to support it, you can faintly see them even in this small render.

Have you guys noticed how many single clad-panel holes there seems to be on the tower? why is that? must be hard to put one in at 400m+ when there is only room for one panel (can they do the work completely from the inside?)

good pics everybody keepITup!-gotta go watch the championsleage semifinals

This thing is unbeliveble! I'm stuned!

And to think that I'm euphoric when some 30 storey tower is built in Croatia...
