You must be really stupid, Who Said your paying for the contruction of this building? Dubai, doesn't get it's money from Oil and BTW, 75-80% of Oil that comes to America comes from Venezuela not from Middle East, So before you talk maybe you go and take some classes on Economics then come on this forum, really rediculous thinking that your 4.00 of gas in the pump is paying for this. America get's 10% of Oil from the Middle East and Mostly from Saudi Arabia not from UAE. Most of the Oil from Middle East goes to China, India, and Japan, and Europe where American Companies produce goods cheap. So Like I said before you come and talk from your ass go and educate yourself. please

Offtopic but we in Slovenia already pay $6.50 a gallon and other european countries pay even more. Income from oil makes only around 5% of Dubai GDP, so Burj Dubai is not build with money from oil

Also I forgot to mention, this person who said that his $4 in the pump is paying for this building needs to also understand, that Oil Prices are speculative, meaning people bet on the Oil Money, so when Oil is shipped from venuezula to America for instance, the Oil price goes up because they do speculate how much oil they will have for some limited amount of time, and they make money of it, that is how also Oil prices goes up, just now there are strikes in Britain and Nigeria where Workers aren't working on the Oil Pipelines, so specualtors on wall street and other markets, specualte on how much the price should be once it comes in to the domestic market. So before this ignorant person comes and talks from his ass he really needs to understand how economics works

From culwulla's latest diagram, the BD is at 637m now? did I read it right? The shaded in area is what's built, I am assuming.

From the latest pics both cranes are still rising from their original positions in the concrete tiers aren't they Culwulla? I think the covered staircase in that pic you posted blocks out the view of the bottom of the crane? I will stand corrected if wrong though.

I love the diagram Culwulla.

And I thought climbing to the top of St. Peters in Rome was scary.

I wonder if I would have the courage to go all the way to the top if I was given the opportunity.

I can imagine the very upper floors being offered as space for extreme camping with a cot and sleeping bag.

I find the spire section the most fascinating feature of the building, engineering wise.

Can you believe it? The Burj is meters away from becoming the tallest structure ever. What do you think, one more month before it breaks that record?

Countries can't just raise prices on oil. If they could, why aren't they raising prices beyond $6? Why not raise it to $50/gallon? $100/gallon? Because they can't. Price is determined by supply/demand. Period. Governments are cutting back on supply artificially by banning exploratory drilling in areas such as Alaska. That raises the price. That plus the absolutely gigantic rise in demand recently from China, though that has been a gradual rise over the past two decades that the market can anticipate so that is not the main reason. You also have to consider the onerous gas taxes. Yet another reason, and one of the biggest, is recent heavy investment in oil from investors due to the US central banks recent credit expansion. Oil was doing well so huge investments in it have driven the price up, as well as corn because of the ethanol craze. That's why we're experiencing the so-called "food shortage." Corn goes up (corn is also feed for animals), which drives the price of meat up and alternative feed sources, including rice.

http://www.globalwarming.org/node/2119 "A bill to raise taxes on just the "big 5" oil companies passed the House last year." "The interesting thing about this is that all these Senators have opposed legislation that would increase U. S. oil production by opening federal offshore areas and the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to exploration. They also all support cap-and-trade legislation on greenhouse gas emissions that would increase gas (and electricity) prices for decades to come."

Also, Dubai and the UAE as a whole are running very low on oil reserves. That's precisely why they're building the Burj Dubai and encouraging their tourism industry.

What baffles me is that this picture is taken above the height of the Rose Rosana hotel (supertall) and you're still forced to look up towards the top of this unfinished building.

So what we have here is a supertall stacked on top of another one. The only two buildings I can compare to the Burj Dubai in real life is the Chase building in Houston and the Library (US Bank) tower in Los Angeles which are both a few feet taller than 1000ft. All the pictures posted are beautiful but I bet they don't do justice compared to seeing it in real life.

By the way your diagrams make me dizzy. Looking at the makes me feel like I'm up in the clouds comparing structures that are touching the ground a couple thousand feet below.
