im 90% certain there is no lift access after lev162.
but does seem wierd that the top 40 floors have NO lifts.lol
then again, the 40 levels are part of a spire which is an architectural feature.
so access is by steel stairwell.

That picture came out years ago. It's just a picture...there have already been plenty of flamewars over whether it means anything or not.

- Nothing but advertising. The structure has 162 official levels. The 4 lower levels below grade and any landings above level 160 mezz 3 will not be included in the floorcount.

As I posted before :
160 levels
Add 6 - Ground, 155 mezz, 158 mezz, 160 mezz 1, 160 mezz 2, and 160 mezz 3
Subtract 4 - Skipped levels 41, 74, 110, 137
= 162 levels.

On another note - here is part of the schedule from a year ago (the newest I have)

Top out approx 3rd week Sept '08
Completion Aug 16 '09.

Emmar had a photo of elevator buttons going upto 196 on their website a few years ago. That was sales pitch bullshit. I know they wanted to keep the height a secret but overstating their building was something I didn't respect of them. Having stair landings above the top habitable floors is misleading when trying to claim this building will have over 200 floors.

Still a fantastic building.

theoretically, they can still label each level above 162 with floor numbering. wouldnt hurt. lets the maintenance guys know how many levels they have to go before they reach top.ha
how good would it look walking up to stairs and you reach lev200.

That's cheating! I want a whole room full of buttons, if any building deserves something close to a Wonkavator its the Burj.

None of them is on hold, what are you talking about.

Pentominium: Shoring work underway

Damac Height: Waiting for Infinity tower to reach ground level before they start digging and working in their plot (the 2 plots are adjacent)

Infinity: After the wall collapse accident and flooding of the site, they closed the gap, drained the site, reinforced the wall and are currently digging to expose the pile caps.

Wind: These towers have been progressing, even that absolutely slow, obviously for lack of resources (materials, technical and working force)

Al Burj: What about it? The project was never launched publicly but anyway if the site is the one we think it is, shoring work is going on there.

I have two questions and I'm sorry if this has already been discussed.

1) Is this fake?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/crea-tive/319057988

2) Why is the observation level on Burj Dubai so shamefully low? I mean, you can climb to the Skypod of CN tower and be higher in the sky. WTF?!
That's such a shame, visiting the tallest structure on the freakin' planet and not be able to climb to the highest observatory on the planet.
There is so much unused height in this building.

This may not be the primary reason for the height of the observation deck being low, but, because this beautiful tower will be visited by hundreds of people a day and at any given time, you need alot of floor space to accomodate everyone there, as well as have room for cafes, restaurants, shops etc. Also, as Cul pointed out quite some time ago, it will be a unique observation deck in that visitors will be able to look both up AND down 400m of the building!!

But i'm with you. Imagine being at the obserbation deck say 550m high, on a day like this:

i dont think its low. for a start its only 5m lower then the tiny spacedeck on cn tower. The observation deck on Burj dubai is a large floor on lev124. It also has an outdoor terrace!
The tier 11 is one of the last large floors, thus the reason why the observation deck is located there. It has a dedicated lift for all the crowds.
why go up 500 or 600m when you can see same view at 442m.?
the only higher ob deck is the 100th floor skybridge in SWFC which is only 30m higher.
the amazing thing about the outdoor terrace on lev124 burj dbai is that you can peer down 442m and also look up another 400m to tp of building. simply amazing!!

you have to consider the logistics of getting the masses of public up to the 700m level.
after floor 162, its stairs for next 40 floors. aim not even sure if the top 40 floors have air cond. can you imagine how hot it would be inside the spire structure? after climbing 40 floors you might have some hospital cases?
