I hope they finish the last 2 levels only after they filled the whole building with windows, desks, computers, full decorated interiors, light and electricity and flowing water.

Otherwise it's lame to build just an empty lonely building...

zz11-current height= the 10th steel section is 650m.(as we know) it has lev168/169 in it. the next section has lev170/171 which will reach 656m or Tier19A.
buildmilehigher-the spire jacking stage is when the steel sections are almost done and 140m long pinnacle will be hoisted up in sections and "jacked" up slowly into position.most of the 140m is 2.1m diametre.the smaller diametre pinnacle will be jacked up inside to full height. this part of construction will be fun to watch.Imre will have to camp out to snap the historic event.

Is there a floor breakdown chart too this building or anything? Something that states what each floor will consist of?

Burj Dubai worker killed

The company building the region’s flagship Burj Dubai tower has confirmed that a worker died at the construction site eight days ago.

Emaar said today that the man, named as Qiwen Li, had suffered multiple injuries when one of the heavy panels used to attach part of the tower’s exterior cladding fell on him.

He was taken to hospital, where he died the same day.

Dubai Police, the municipality and the developer are conducting a joint inquiry into the death.

The Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest tower and described by Emaar as “the centrepiece of the Gulf region’s most prestigious urban development to date”, was last week measured at 649 metres tall.

Its eventual height remains a closely guarded secret. It is unclear whether the man, who worked for a contractor, was on the ground or working up on the building when the accident happened.

Emaar said the victim had undergone safety training.

“He was one of the more experienced workers on site, who had attended Emaar’s safety induction programme and the daily ‘tool-box’ talks that are held to maintain safety standards at the construction site,” said a spokesman.

“He was also provided with personal protective equipment, as is mandatory at the site.”

Safety was an important issue on the tower, he said: “Emaar has put in place internationally accepted procedures in ensuring safety at the work-site. Apart from stationing safety officers at all work-sites, it is mandatory for workers to wear safety gear and attend daily safety briefings.”

Mr Qiwen was one of more than 7,800 workers employed on the vast site on an average day. More than 30 million man-hours have been expended on the project since construction began in September 2004.

This isn’t the first fatality on the tower. In June last year another worker died when he fell to his death.

Sad to hear the news, but two deaths in 30 milion work hours are still very low cost. For example: during the construction of Empire State Building where around 3400 workers partecipated, 5 of them died. I hope this was the last casualty on this project. RIP

Horrible with loss of life. Im sure that if he has family, they will be given needed care. I hope that at least, something will be learnt from this, so that others lifes might be spared in the future.

The reality of today though is that buildings skyscrapers, and especially milestone ones, is not riskfree by any means and takes caution. Its Samsung which builds the building I guess, and should do an inquiry with other corporations involved and localities.

This is something we'd all wish would not have to happen.

The exterior work hoist has gone! - expect to see the cladding starting to be completed on that side.
