The big change over

From moving from concrete to steal may be a big challange and they need to do it carefully. Also, you may have notice that the sides need to catch up with the past of the top. My guess these 2 factors has cause the top from growing but it should not be too long before the next floor is up.

Burj Dubai is currently nearly 600m, eventually 800m+, thus 6/8s height or 3/4 built.
just amazing.
Im about to start on a diagram which shows the progression of worlds tallest building since 1860;s. should be really interesting to see progression right up to 2009 with mighty BurjD.

started with NYC then Chicago, then NYC, then Chicago, then Kuala Lumpur, then Taiwan then Dubai! who woulda thought?

I'm no expert on high-rise construction by any means, but I'd assume they'd remove all the upper concrete formwork (once it's set) before beginning the steel work...

I can't see them leaving it on and letting it get in the way...

I imagine they're currently giving the core all the time they can within the forms to cure up, because they're soon going to be bolting on a multi-ton crane to it, and don't want any accidents. So having said that, you might see it like this for a little while longer...

In the near future they will remove those 2 cranes right? But if they remove them and install only 1 crane. How will they manage to fetch up the steel beams the cladding panels and other needed construction material?

Is it possible that they first remain at this height until the cladding catch up?

That's not a river that's a lagoune at the tipping end of an natural (sea) creek going deep inland. The same sea creek that it is being extended and it will even be connected back to the sea on the other side, creating a free flow canal.

The extended creek will pass some 1 km away at the nearest point.

My high school was 500m from the house Nostradamus lived (the house still exists btw. Not much visited though !). Man, by that place we used to get such good weed there's no wonder that guy had such visions.

"Yeeah, well, sometime some guys from some place west are gonna rule us."

Maybe he meant the germans in 1939 ? That as well might stick.

By the way, any place can be found west of us. Even us, after 40000km

Let's get back to serious things, mind you ?

The Burj Dubai is 8 kilometres (5 miles) from where this picture was taken. It is not a river but an inlet called Dubai Creek.

The 818 (or 919 quoted recently) plan is totally speculative otherwise we would know what is exactly happening at this stage of the concrete top off and the start of the steelwork planning.

A few posts back no one could even say if it was floor 155, 156 or 157 in comparison to Imres pics, so we are just part of the guessing game that is exactly the intention of the developers.

No matter what anyone says about plans being leaked, we just dont know at this stage what the final height will be as it will be subjected to revision 8, and posibly 9 and 10 at this stage of the construction.

To answer your question there is nobody on this thread and outwith the need to know people of Emaar and SOM senior management aware of the final conclusion at this stage.

Anyone that says otherwise?????????

If there was steelwork going up imminent it would be on site now, and delayed shipments subject to performace bond penalties against the defaulting contractor as is the normal contracting principles.

i beleive that once they top out they can use a smaller hoist thats attached to the roof of the building.

height

A lot of the main contributors on here have done sterling work, especially Culwulla who takes a sensible and non sensationalist approach. They have also developed intelectual property and run with the 818m plan. I am utterly sure, even if it is not by much, it will be different. The whole point of this project is shock and awe! There are many guys who know better than me, but it is as much about perceiving as judging, it will be great in any guise though!
Btw, I am sure it won't go too high, after all, Sheikh Mo and his family owns Nakheel fully and hence the "possible" Al burj, I think definite. This is a test run for a lot of the technology required for that and to test concrete integrity and pumping to higher levels than seen before. Just my inconsequential thoughts anyway!

All the guys who give so much to this forum, respect.
