I am not sure what exactly you see, but I think you are referring to Sharjah.
I think that is Bur Dubai, the old center of Dubai... Sharjah is a little further away...

Ahhh - must be nice to have Adrian Smith's book. Reminds me of another forummer who quoted that book all the time - Megatower ( banned now ).

Please enlighten us with a technical description of the difference. Also a detailed comparison to what has been constructed on the actual tower that is different to the construction plans as they match the newest renders from '07.

You have PM'd me stating there is something incorrect in my plan in your current alias and have beat around the bush about it in a previous alias or 2. Time to step up and prove your point.

I have been kind enough to send you info and prints and explain to you things you were disputing. I am open to changing my plan and have as I am on version 3 right now. Just give me detailed descriptions of the differences with plans or photos proving your point and I will make a ver. 4.

I always give sources and pics with text and arrows on anything I make as anyone here can attest to. For you to say there is a difference and if I had the book I could see the difference doesn't cut it. I am a very technical guy ( as are many here ) so as I said before - please enlighten us.

NO It's 656.1 metres, although no one cares too much, I'm being precise.

BTW how far deep into concrete beneath is the steel floor rooted into?

Spandex, when you say "city" are you talking about the area with a lot of high-rises in the distance?

To avoid the confusion, I drew squares around the areas seen in this image that have been mentioned above.

Red is Sharjah.
Green is Deira.
Blue is Bur Dubai.

thanks otr.
yes its 11th steel section NOT 11th floor section.
you have to realise each 6.4m section consists of two floors. so now 11th section contains levels 170 1nd 171.
thats 11x 22 floors/70m since lev155 concrete slab.
very cool pix
thanks

Thanks for that helghast.

3 things:

1 - Lets remember the perspective of the render is from the other side of the structure than all the other renders so it will look different.

2 - The structure is being constructed to the construction plans ( and therefore to my plan ) exactly. It has not deviated at all and the plans are the same as the latest renders.

3 - The plans may have changed since the book came out. I'm not sure what year the book came out but the plans did change numerous times.

My second point is the big one so if the renders in the book are different they are not following the current plan and do not reflect what is going on with the actual structure.

Yes 656.1 m. to the horizontal beams at the top of section 2 of tier 19.
As Cul pointed out the vertical columns do stick up above that by approx. 2 m. and in 2009 when they do the official measurement they may add 6 m. I will stick to 656.1 for now though.

Great pics OTR! Cladding is slowly covering the second mech floors and nearing the top of concrete also. Its amazing what they have done with glass in the past year Cant imagine that the steel part is almost twice as high as my commie block. And after all its also 600m high in the sky
Cant wait for the spire lifting...

Hi all.

I have re-worded my Tier Methodology so it is easier to understand the terraces / roofs of the wings. I also saved it in PDF format as not all have Word.

Bikes has kindly updated his site with the new version. Go to www.burjdubaiskyscraper.com and have a look around as it is THE best site out there for Burj Dubai info and pics. See the facts page for my stuff and many others' contributions.

It looks like they have built just over a third of the steel structure's final height and considering it just gets thinner and thinner I am getting a good feeling for just how fast the BD is going to top out. That said ...it's already June! I don't know why but time is flying by these days!

wow dude, that was even 7 times more info that i was looking for, ▄berthanks to you mate

so this Sharjah,,,, is it a part of dubai??? does it have any nice buildings?? is there allready a thread for it? looks like a fully mature city there in the mist.
And finally the " Bur Dubai" makes sense, I allways thought that it was a mispelling haha but never functioned with the burj dubai area.

thanks in advance for any links/photos to Sharjah, bur dubai and deira(know a bit about deira allready)

Here is a link to the Sharjah forums: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1012.

Sharjah is not a part of Dubai; it is its own seprate emirate but it is a part of the "Dubai metropolitan area" (although I have never heard that term used).

Bur Dubai and Deira are found on either side of Dubai Creek. A mix of projects from both of these areas of Dubai can be found in the Dubai Creek Development forum (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=715) and the Dubai Metro Development forum (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=575).

If you have any questions about those areas (or other areas in Dubai), just let me know (a private message is preferable).

cranes

So, as far as I'm able to tell, those cranes can reach about 70m above the current floor (725m - 656m = 69).
At what height will the cranes no longer be used? (you know, because of the spire jacking and all). Is it possible that from ground-to-crane we'll get 850m or more?
Even if temporary, it'd be pretty amazing.
