Hey guys, amazing site always love the updates. I'm a long time visitor and first-time poster, as I am staying at the Al-Murooj Rotanna, for the next ten days with family, and have the Burj as my neighbor. When I get back to the states I will upload the pictures from my stay. It is just purely amazing. Today I am going to Jumeirah beach and hit the waves.

hi guys,
i see i am new here as well, though i've been watching this forum since a pretty long time. as I am not as technical as some of you (i really get impressed of culwulla, fury and a few others), there are a few things that I would like to know (maybe even for the price of asking a question someone else already asked before - so don't get angry please).

so, first, not a technical question.. when did the first guy die at the burj dubai? i never heard of that.. do you have any info on that? (i am just curious)
and.. maybe a question for culwulla and fury.. you guys are really experts on these drawings and technical things.. is there something else you are doing during the days?

and one PS: culwulla, i am really grateful that you changed your profile picture (i don't know the name of the actor you had on the profile picture, but i really do not like him)

I think that at least one crane will have to reach at least 770m high to lift steel for last levels of tier 26. Possibly they will use both cranes until the end, one for lifting the steel and one for lifting pieces of spire

Nearly time for the glasses to say hello to the cranes, then later the steel.

Yes, afaik they're gonna lift only one of the cranes to help with the final assembly of the spire.

How they gonna transfer cladding glasses right to the roof when crane is lower? By the elevator?

The cranes for the window washer are strong enough to hoist a piece of cladding. So I guess they'll use them for that as well

I don't want to seem like a troll, especially considering that I have probably never posted in this thread..But, I was looking at the diagrams posted above of the projected heights and I couldn't help but notice that at least a quarter of this building will be just antenna or steel structure with limited or no actual use. It doesn't really concern me, because I don't care either way about this building, but it is something to note.

What are the motivations for making it so tall?
Why if it is so tall does it need to have 220m + antenna?

And lastly, would you ever consider living on say floor 148?

The spire is there for architectural purposes. It gives a nice shape to the building. It's also there to make it the highest building. Dubai is a developing city, so it needs as much media attention as possible. It also needs to become a landmark for tourists

Oh and I would love to live on floor 148. It will have a beautiful view and the idea of living so many meters above the ground is just great. At least in my opinion

The spire has more structural importance then people credit it with.

... plus, why CN Tower goes for a further 130 meters up, above the sky pod? Not that it would really concern me because I don't care wither way about that structure, just a note considering the subject was brought up.

you call my post a BS pop-up? Well many thanks for your offending post then. I tried to answer someones question. If that not appreciated I indeed also ask myself why I still post here.

Hi Milansson - Welcome to the forums.

Skyscrapers are just a hobby for me - albeit a very passionate one.
