It doesn't matter to me whether its gonna be 1600 metres high or not. As long as they build a tower more than 1,000 metre tower is Jeddah.

hey guys. i think that burj dubai is on floor 174 but i'm not real sure because there hasn't been any updates in office. also the burj dubai has a new design which is why it is exceeding its original designs and is now extended an extra at least 10-20 floors. i heard that it was going to have a huge section added in any time now giving it the extra 10-20 floors. this diagram is no longer correct

and neither is this

but how about this awesome tower as tallest in the world? it won't ever be the tallest but imagine such a beautiful tower as tallest in the world

How are you so sure about this height increase of '10-20' floors? What are your sources for this info?

Why's it taking them so long to get simple steel floors up?!
Ok your new here, so i'll cut it easy. There are many factors that are contributing to what is relatively slow progress compared to what we used to see a few weeks ago. I say that because, in other parts of the world, the pace of construction at which BD is going at now is pretty much the standard time, if not a tad faster, than for other countries to complete a standard cycle floor. The rate of construction on this site is absolutley incredible and given its sheer size and structural complexities, due credit must be given to the chief engineers, planners and directors for organizing and leading a huge group of workers to build this mammoth with pure precision. Having said that, here are a few reasons why the construction is going slower than normal:

1. The Height - at over 650m tall, it takes a long time to lift huge steel beams and columns from the ground up to the current floor. I think it takes them about 5 mins or maybe longer to get from the ground to the steel structure. And remember, the higher they get, the longer the steel will take to get up to the top.

2. The Wind - related to height, but realistically has an impact on any construction 300m + in height. At 650m+, the wind is very strong, and especially in the dubai region, very powerful desert winds come across to the site and this has a big impact on construction logistics and progress. (If you read back a few pages, you will find that a forumer has commented that due to very powerful winds, construction had halted for about 18 days, due to concerns for the safety of the workers etc.

3. The Height increase - not confirmed as yet, but a few news reports have written about a possible change in height from the original plans (818m) , and this calls for change in design (more steel to support extra weight, floor hieghts, tier methodology etc)

so yeah, hope i answered your question.
cheers, and Welcome to SkyscraperCity Forums!!

P.S Other forumers feel free to comment if you feel what i have said is not 100% correct.

This is just an amazing video !!!

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=j3B2KRj844w (burj dubai evolution)

Burj dubai vs the tall tower.

The width of the tall tower is unbelievable, it will take long to construct this...

The final height will change of more than 0,5 metres from day to night...is it right?
