Was honored to visit Dubai recently! The BD is spectacular!

I recently returned from a visit to Dubai that was a mix of holiday and business. I flew there via Emirates Houston flight and can tell you that airline is top-notch!

The people of Dubai were friendly and gracious hosts. It was about business and not geo-political politics. I specifically toured the area around the Burg Dubai from somewhat of a close vantage point and it is more spectacular in person than any of the pictures that we see on this blog! Seriously, everyone should travel to Dubai to see this tower alone! The only drag was all of the dust kicked up from the construction of what? At least 40 major skyscrapers and surrounding infrastructure? In ten years the cities core area will look much different when this is done.

Reading this thread I marvel at how touchy people can be when defending Dubai from the different observations and yes accusations leveled against it and what is fueling the growth and what is behind the "wow" of Dubai. When I inquired as to this subject with my hosts they stated that yes some of the growth comes from Dubais oil industry but also a siginificant amount of the investment come from outside entities looking to park money in Dubai from their own gains made from trading and and producing this important commodity. Keep in mind a very short time ago only two places traded in oil futures. One was New York, the other London. Now there is three. Guess where the third is? Dubai. Anyway, there is now "some" concern that Dubai is experiencing a classic economic bubble that can "burst" at anytime. This does not mean the economic engine that is Dubai stops but the runaway growth might slow down with BD type projects fewer and far between. Time will tell! (America needs to get their act together and quickly before they drag the rest of the world into a recession with it)

In the meantime all of us who love skyscrapers and are fascinated with infrastructure Dubai will give us our "fix" for many years. To the SC people who posts pictures of the construction progress of the DB tower well done! Keep them coming!

great update imre.
interesting how the steel section is now 76m/250ft high or about as high as a 25storey block of flats.

burj dubai has a bit of Art deco feel to it?

Art Deco because of the metal protuberances atop the wings?
