i think 442m is high enough. any higher and you wont see much more. especially on high wind days.it is a large floor and has a unique outdoor terrace.

Or you wont see, we know that the sand decrease the visibility in Dubai, specially in a bad day.

I think the reason the have put it there is because you can look at the skyscrapers on SZR from outside. They should put another higher one up there facing Dubai Marina.

I'm sure you'll be able to look in the other directions but just be behind the glass.

Being just over halfway up on first glance this seems low but no other scrapr can say that 400m is half way!

442m will be just fine to view all around

Yea, but it's a pity that Shanghai World Financial Center beats Burj Dubai, having a observation deck higher up.

Don't care if it's a little off topic, this vid worth watching just for the track. Nothing like a bit of 80's nostalgia.

Tell me whyyyyyyy all this construction.... All or Bust?

Club Heaven, London. The atmosphere was electric! The girls!

yeah but Burj Dubais is OUTSIDE at 442m.
while SWFC has outdoor platform at 435m, its indoor skybridge is 470m.
30m difference up that high isnt noticable.
In SWFC you are basically at top of structure with not much above you.
On burj dubais ob deck, you not only can look down 442m but glance up at another 400m of building! quite amazing really!

Nah, true. But don't deny that people want to go as high as possible on that building.

who knows, maybe oneday they might take on tours higher up in tower.like small groups taken up 30 floors of spire to tier27 ect. i can see it now.. "roof of the world" tours.ha

In sydney and auckland, many years after opening of there towers, they have added tours to higher parts of the towers. In sydney they built an outdoor deck (Skywalk) where you walk around on glass floor overhangs.
http://www.sydneytoweroztrek.com.au/...k_welcome.html
On Skytower in Auckland, you can pay more to climb "vertigo" up internal ladder up shaft to 70m higher then public observation deck.
hell they even bungi jump off the tower!
http://www.skycityauckland.co.nz/sky...tower_home.cfm

So maybe Burj Dubai managament may do something similar? crazy not to. make lots of $$.

Also, if the observation deck is say 60-100m higher than what it is, then the floor space will be much smaller and hence they won't be able to accommodate the hundreds of people who would visit the deck everyday.

Non-related question: In regards to the 3.75m thick concrete slab which the tower sits on, how long did it take to pour all that concrete? 2 days?

The 400m skydeck really works out in Dubai, since it focuses on the currently thriving area. Once more of the development comes to fruition, I'm sure Tall Tower will feature something of an impressive view.

That said, I'm really excited for the spire lifting. Soon...

Hi all.

Yes the jacking is gonna be very interesting.

The spire jacking drawing we have had for ages is not being followed as far as I can tell. It shows a working stage at the start of tier 19 and a loading platform at the start of tier 16 but the structure seems to have a platform at the start of tier 17. Perhaps it is a crane base as it looks fairly robust. It has been there for quite a while now seemingly unused so we will have to wait and see.

The first columns of tier 20 should be up any day now - up further into record territory. Only a few years ago after 9-11 the future of skyscrapers looked very bleak. When the first rumours of a 150 story building started around the forums the responses ranged from LOL to bullshit. Now that the Burj has stomped all the records and still has 150 meters to go the responses are amazing and awesome (as they should be).

I have said it before and I'll say it again - it is such a great time to be a skyscraper lover.

i agree with the ob deck issue, they should give tours of higher floors in the building
