Nice shots OTR.

I think I can clear up the taller than normal column.

That is the setback side for tier 20 - it faces 120 degrees (faces that crane). The taller column in question is the middle column for the smaller wing that continues up facing the same direction. It just looks taller but we are seeing it from just above the setback up past the top of tier 20 section 1 continuing up to the top of section 2.

Here is a shot by Imre showing the column I am refering to for tier 19 facing North.

So IMO we are now at the top of tier 20 - section 2 at 675.3 m. They are sticking to the plans. Also doing sections faster and faster.

I just got back from my first ever trip to Dubai (was there for work), and the Burj Dubai MUST be seen in person to really get an idea how big it is! I don't follow the progress of it too often, and I was blown away at how far along it is. I have never seen as many cranes before as I did in Dubai!

Hi Fury, Thanks for the clearer pic from Imre, However I have to disagree with your thoughts on this longer column.

Although its dark at the moment, the last steel level is floodlit, and and directly opposite the column in place at the moment is another steel stub similar to what they placed the long column on yesterday.

The stub has gone on tonight so I would envisage another longer column will be in place sometime tomorrow.

Also I had a look from various directions today, and although not zoomed into in the full BD pics I posted today, the column in place at this level sticks out from all angles.

Will have to wait and see.

I think you are talking about the scaffold staging, where the wind protectors are to shield the welding from the wind.

Hi OTR.

It will be interesting to see if this is a deviation from the plans - but I don't think so. Nothing wrong with your pic I just used one of Imres to show the column on the tier below where we are now. The column looks to be an I-beam sticking out a few feet from the center round column. Really looks like the center column for the smaller wing that continues up on that side ( 120 degrees ). We should have various other angles over the next few days so we will see. So cool how they can't do anything without us knowing about it. Hats off to all the people in Dubai that keep us up to date.

On another note Darth Shemp has found an article from SOM that has a couple of pages of my plan in it. I am both honoured and amazed to see this. It is nice to see. Thanx Darth !

so i dont know if this is being discussed somewhere else, but the name supertall cannot be applied to this building. with a good amount of building above 2000ft. shouldn't there be a new genre for buildings above 2000ft. maybe something like this

1000+ft-supertall
2000+ft-ultratall
3000+ft-megatall
any takers??

Please, watch Codename: Asero.

You can see Burj Dubai but I think it is on May 2008 edition.

P.S.: I watched that show.

Only another ~400 feet to go. Amazing!

I'm also happy to see some of the lower sections exterior work nearly complete as well. BD looked so imcomplete without the lower sections truly finished.

Closer and closer to completion...
The job of applying the cladding at those heights would make my heart explode in my chest I think. But would be a rush, nevertheless...

The progress is going pretty fast, 15th steel floor in no time.

We just can't get full view of the steel floors with parts hidden behind the cranes.
