The spire is 128 metres tall on its own and 560 tonnes heavy. The spire looks like it will start to root itself as soon as 19th floor is completed which is first floor or 22nd tier which also is just after 700 metre mark has been passed. So one more tier to go or 2 floors.
thanks for that...interested to know what kind of additional structural elements are added at the floor/level the spire will be rooted into. anyone know?

Apart from steel structure, I don't know particularly.

But it will not be for habitable purpose for sure, but for communication mainly. And now that 16th floor started, this is the height where the highest crane stops jumping for the rest of the time, sad.

right. i was more thinking whether the spire bolt plates would be subject to "uplift" due to wind sway (and what they've done about it) since the spire cross section is much smaller than the comm. floors. may be they laterally brace to the adjacet floor plate all the way up for the duration it is still within the comm. floors?

Is there any kind of transit in Dubai? Or is it just Los Angeles 2.0, totally auto-centric?

From what I know, there is a big Dubai Metro project going on just now, but I don't know when it should start to operate...

Yes to both questions. Dubai is auto-centric but, just like Los Angeles, there is public transportation.

The Dubai Metro has two lines: Red and Green Lines. The Red Line is exptected to open on 9 September 2009. The Green Line is exptected to open in March 2010.

Hi all.

Hey Cul - Section 20B is where it is supposed to start. The section has much bigger structural members than the ones below it. I think the circular pipe will still start there. They may not actually build the pipe yet though. They may build it as they jack it into place.

Buildmilehigh - do you have a source for the higher pinnacle start ? That video while very good is not a good source for changes to the plan. We will have to wait and see.

Guys the pinnacle is the circular "pipe" (tiers 27 to 30 - pinnacle 1 to 4) that sticks up above tier 26. It starts (in the plans) at section 20B and is hidden inside the structure untill the top of tier 24 where it will show 1/3 of the way around the structure. After the top of tier 25 it will show 2/3 of the way around.Below tier 27 it is not called the pinnacle.

The spire is from tier 22 to tier 26 - spire 1 to 5. Another full tier to be erected before the spire starts.

The roof(s) is(are) from tier 19 to tier 22 - roof 1 to 4. Tier 22 is both roof 4 and spire 1.

Here is 3 (of 12) pages of my plan to help illustrate.

that depends on your definition of an apartment

"An apartment is a self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Apartments may be owned (by an owner-occupier) or rented (by tenants)."

Dont know why this has not been spotted before, but both elevator frames have been dismantled and vertical un-clad gap is now being installed with cladding.

Pic from this morning.

yeah, finally... good to see the elevators being taken away and the empty space being cladd..

btw.. don´t know if it was on imre´s pic or on your, OTR, but someone mentioned a small fire that made a few windows a bit black..
does anyone know more about it? I mean, it does not look to be something serious that would affect the construction, but would interest me anyway..
thanks if any answers

I dont think this was a fire but is grease etc from the crane wires that has blown onto the cladding.

In addition it looks as though there was a diesel genny in that area for a while.
