It looks like someone's playing simcity...and they're using cheats...big time. There seems something totally unorthodox about what I see in that photo, not to mention all the others of Dubai and the UAE.

You mean like sticking a space needle next to a stadium?

I heard that only Turkish steel is been used in the construction. Can somebody confirm this, please?

I haven't heard of Turkish steel used, at least not on the steel section on top, however part of the rebar used on the concrete structure might have come from Turkey. I know that Turkish made rebar is present in the market.

I don't know if that's true, but it might be possible.

No, there is indeed steel coming from Germany which was recycled from a former building.

OK, Thanks. This is what I found from the net...

Quote:
The iron structure of former East German leader Erich Honecker's seat of government, Palast der Republik in Berlin, has found its way to Dubai's prestigious real estate development, Burj Dubai. The steel has been recycled and partly used for building the world's tallest property, Burj Dubai.

Scrap dealer Henryk Wetzel said that the recycled steel is picked up by a commodity broker, shipped via the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea to Istanbul and then bought by a Turkish company that manufactures steel girders for the Burj Dubai tower.

So from what I understand steel girders are coming from Turkey...

That is still coming I guess. The area around the tower is now filled with construction materials.

I wonder how deep it is going to be - will there be penalties for scuba diving in the lake? Will the lake have small propeller driven boats in it to hit unwary snorkelers? Some of the shots from close-up near the base (entry atrium with X tape on the glass) show what looks like the concrete walls which will eventually enclose the water, some of which look like they're 4 to 5 meters high....

You can now enter your own name for the Burj Dubai Lake Fountains.

The fountain in Burj Dubai Lake is envisaged as a water, light and music spectacle – truly, one of the world’s finest water features.

To shoot water spray up to a height of 500 ft – equivalent to a 50-storey building, the fountain will have over 6,000 lights and 50 colour projectors, with the water features swaying to the melody of Arabic and international music.

Just use your imagination and find a name for the largest fountains in the world:

Dubai, as spectacular and awe-inspiring as it is, is ultimately an unsustainably decadent orgy of fanciful and unrealistic planning and building practices. Does anyone really think that this suburbia-on-steroids can keep on growing indefinitely?

Dubai as it exists now and will exist for the next ten or twenty years will be a wonderful place to live and visit, but one day, likely in the first half of this century, Emirati leaders will begin to regret the lack of density, auto-centrism, laughable excuse for a public transit system, and outrageously unsustainable architecture.

We shall see. For now, build on! It's not like the earth has finite natural resources anyway, right?

Why would you want to scuba dive there, (unless your cleaning the lake)
