Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure Old Town Resident is right. Check out this comparison of yesterday with today:

That thing is pretty huge, I don't think it could still be up there but somehow hidden. Think what you want, but it makes sense to stop at L156 since that is what the original plan was. And remember concrete work isn't finished yet, only the concrete core is. The wings still have work to do.

I think thats it for the concrete as well; as much as I want to see it taller than we know, id much more prefer it proportionate.

I thought the floors above 156 will be the steel/concrete combination with floor 156 being the last 100% concrete floor. Can someone confirm this?

Yeah, thats the way it will be. Above L156, only slabs are partly concrete, the rest is all steel.

I was hoping for a twist in the tale! Oh well, 156 it is and steel will be more or less as Cullwulla's plan. Emaar may well as just have not bothered with the secrecy! 818m...........Maybe they now realise that Al burj will smash the record come what may. And, on reflection and away from being a height junkie, I think 818m will be perfect in terms of proportions for this building. Will be an amazing sight, just wish we could something like it in the UK!!!

Remember that the number 8 is special for these Eastern guys. 818 metres will be acceptable to them - but 888 metres would be even better if it can be achieved. Let's hope that BD reaches 888!

8 is a lucky number in Far East. I don't think it has any significance in the Middle East

The Shard will be the UKs Burj Dubai, even if it is less than half the height.
