Exactly. And I don't think it's going slow. It's going fast where was the time that they took weeks to complete one floor.

So why ask with every tall building, "is it really necessary?"?!?!?!?!?!

Of course it is necessary - it's the nature of Man to always want to achieve more.
Skyscrapers take up less space.

According to Angus MacFarlane, the technical Director at HYDER CONSULTING, the top of Burj Dubai moved less then 100 mm from last week's earthquake (check page 2)

Full size: http://flickr.com/photos/joi/2874285211/sizes/o/

The first column of tier 22 / section 22 is up so we are now at 707.3 m. as ZZ said.

Thanx for the update Dennis.

Skyscrapers are good for the planet, to build a 100 story skyscraper you have to cut down less forests than to build 20 5 story buildings.

Hi Drone.

The steel level timetable was made by OTR - excellent work !

I was thinking the same thing as you. I think OTR is away right now. While I could make a timetable up I like OTR's so hopefully he will keep giving us updated ones.

For now here is his latest - to section 21 - 16th level by his timetable. (There is actually 2 more because of levels with mezzanines but it is the 16th - 6.4 m. level/section which works good for this purpose)

These sections will be added to get us up to date. (I think I have the dates right)

- 17th level (section 21A) first column placed on 27 August 2008
Duration 16 days.

- 18th level (section 21B) first column placed on 10 Sept. 2008
Duration 14 days.

- 19th level (section 22) first column placed on 21 Sept. 2008
Duration 11 days.

As I said above I hope OTR will make up new timetables as we go along. It took me a while to go back and dig up the dates for just 3 sections. The full timetable would have taken quite a while - let me repeat - great work - thanx OTR.

EDIT - I think the last timetable will include the 21st "level" as the jacking proceedure will start then (or before). After that the top of the pinnacle will emerge and be jacked up in 2 stages so the structure won't go up level by level anymore like in the timetable.

There is not too much forest to cut down in Dubai

wooow, I am wondering if this post really deserves a response,,,,,,,,, dont think so, but damn

but i really can understand where the thought comes from LOOKING At DUBAI but in most cases this is a very stupid decloration (spelling wrong)

the tower is going up quite fast these days, still waiting for the "small" crane to be added, maby never.

one question: you guys all remember the good old times when every single floor became contraversial if they where sticking to the plans or not, I wanted to ask the pros, ARE we now following the right plan, the plan of 818(35 or whatever) meters? is there no sign of something NOT going according to plan?

in the end..... GUYS (and gals) AIN'T WE JUST LUVIN' THIS MEGA MOTHERF***NG MANMADE PEACE OF A HUMANGUS MASTERPIECE????

I'm assuming you're talking about trees in the figurative way and are actually referring to the environmental aspects of building the building. In this case I think you're incorrect. A high-rise building of equivalent volume takes more resources and probably cost more than the same volume in mid rise structures. I don't have an actual numbers to prove this but I don't believe you do for your claim either.

You have to take the land prices into consideration .. in some areas building a skyscraper is much less costly than building horizontally.
