Apparently they have halted construction on the steel section until the crane is completely dismantled. Nice pics by the way OTR

There could be two or more working shifts it would seem hard work for just one guy.
Is there going to be a 3rd crane going up, or the one remaining will go all the way?

Breaking News Spire and New Steel Level

As I said more steel going up but didn’t expect another level to start so soon, also first glimpse of the spire in the center of the second pic.

Sorry should have said spire, and yes from the scale of other surrounding structure the tubular is around 2M diameter.

It might be the pinnacle, but only a part of it.

Avangard, very correct, and also yes eventually there will be a third crane to replace others in situ as explained by Fury earlier.

So Burj Dubai is at 713,7 meters already?
These night shots really show a memorable moment... the rest of crane 2, the next level and a part of the final spire showing up. Thanks a lot!

@ webeagle12: for a very long time the plans suggested that the three main cranes would be replaced by a smaller one for the spire sections. Culwulla has mentionned it for the last time on March 27th, 2008 in his diagrams. But now it looks as if the left over main crane probably might handle it alone. It's likely that a small new crane might appear in the end... to dismantle the last big one.

713.7!!!!!!!!

spire takes up like a half of that floor, Loooool. I honestly don't believe thenext level started so soon and this means more higher floors to come will come fast. BTW 19th steel floor must be the floor with shortest time without the next floor on top of it.

Have we actually seen any spire parts go up by crane though, maybe it was taken up sometime few hours ago cos the day time photo above show no spire then at night it appears or has the spire from below been loaded up by pulley or whatever?

Spire went up very fast in dark tonite, and is much longer than can be seen in the pics.

hm.. if I look at constuction plan from July 07 than I can see that they will stay at one hight a full month and than lift a spire (80meters) in one single month.. so.. Burj Dubai should come to its final hight somewhere in the end of November.

but has the spire's lower part been there for long time hidden then jumped up tonite or has it been crane lifted and been placed tonite?

The spire section was lifted up by crane this evening, but not stealthy enough.
