Must be big Bird, because the head reflection only takes the space 3 windows.

Looks more like the salt-sucking monster from the first Star Trek episode.

Upon closer inspection the wall thickness of the big end sure doesn't look 55 mm. Looks like a length of 4x4 the pinnacle is sitting on and the wall doesn't look 1/2 as thick as that. Maybe things are deceiving and the block of wood is 6x6 or just the angle of the shot makes the walls look thinner than they are. The other possibility is the bottom of that piece is part of tier 29 and not 28 - then the walls should be 40 mm which is more what it looks like.

A (stupid) question for the guys in Dubai :
Are the dimensions of lumber the same as in North America ? 2x4, 2x6, 4x4, 6x6, etc

Fury the blocks of wood wedging the spire are 4x4 as I took note of that as I was being harrassed. Wall thickness is definetly around 30mm, something I am used to assessing in my business related to pipelines.

No jail, just arms up my back by two big guys and held until head of security arrived.

In hindsight they wanted to take me into the BD to meet the head of security and I refused.......................duh

Holy smokes OTR - great work. Some of the best yet during the construction of the mighty BD.

I noticed right away the attachment points for the fins are welded to the pinnacle - in the plans they are bolted with 4 bolts. They still went with 2 bolts / attachment (for a total of 4) to connect the fins. The plans show the center of the 2 attachment points for each fin at 1.8 m. apart. If the part of the pinnacle showing is only ~ 1 m. the points are much closer together so perhaps some fins are shorter than others ? I just can't see that being the case - so ??

Going by the 1 m. dia estimate this must be the top of tier 29 / pinnacle 3 at 1.35 m. diameter and the part under the tarp must be the bottom of tier 30 / pinnacle 4 at 1.20 m. dia. I wonder why part of it is under the tarp ? Great shot of the transition to the smaller diameter. The small part sticking out of the tarp at the far end just looks like another weld point to me. Tier 30 is 21.3 m. so much longer than what is there. Another possibility is it is the top of tier 28 / pinnacle 2 at 1.5 m. dia. and the part under the tarp is the bottom of tier 29 / pinnacle 3 at 1.35 m. dia. The part of the pinnacle sticking out at the top of the structure right now has been estimated at 1.5 m. dia. so perhaps this will be welded right to it ?
I agree with the second part of your assessment....that the visible part of the spire on the ground is the 1.5m diameter section which will fit to the top of the 1.5m section that is already in place. With the section under the tarp being the lower part of the 1.35m diameter section

btw Thanks to OTR for taking these very interesting photos

wow.. that spire looks actually more like a shuttle, very impressive.

Well, it is really interesting to read through all the posts. Incredible, yesterday in the afternoon I was reading the newest posts and this morning, 4 new pages. Can this get even better?!

The thing with the spire thing confuses me a bit. Fury, you really give lots of fantastic technical updates (sometimes it takes me a few minutes to read it properly), on the other hand, the video about the spire-lifting procedure looks a bit different, but it is possible that they will rather do it the way you are talking about.

anyway, i have to add my name to the bunch of people thanking OTR for the amazing pics from the BD construction area.. Next time, you better go inside and meet with the boss of security. Maybe you could tell them you are from the official forum about the Burj Dubai that Emaar also uses to give the public updates, blabla
Maybe they will trust you and you will be able to get some more interior pics.. Would be great to see that as well..

DennisS, your pictures are great as well, of course, but looks quite like a stagnation over the past 3 days, they all look the same

Keep up the great work, my friends get mad from my status messages in my GMAIL account. I am ADDICTED to Burj DUBAI!!!
