Just in case it slips past the insanity I'm posting this here as well

Possible supertall in burj dubai downtown. Only a placeholder now but these place holders for emaar often turn out to be real projects.

There's also this tower which I didn't add to the list since I wasn't sure if it would reach 300m or not.

You can see them both here. The one on the right (1st one) is clearly over 300m if you compare with The Address which is 306m.

Hi OTR.

Here's the poop.

- The lifting "wheels" are at approx 697 m.

- The pinnacle that has been sticking up since Sept 28 has been estimated at 1.5 m. diameter. That makes it part of tier 28 only 30 some meters from the top of the structure. I don't think there is very much if any of the 2.1 m. dia. - 92.8 m. long - pinnacle pipe up there yet.

I think the plan is to add to the top of that 1.5 m. piece - lower into the void - add to the top - lower - untill the top platform is sticking out.

Then jack up 20 m. or so. and add a tier to the bottom of what is already jacked up.

Repeat 6 times or so.

I don't think the base of the pinnacle pipe will be added untill the last jacking stage or even after that. They need the spire void to be empty for the jacking proceedure.

I hope this is making sense - I can see it so clearly. I could have it all wrong but I just can't see any other way this jacking is going to be done.

I suppose it won't be long until everything is clear. As far as the spire jacking goes.

Last 100 meters, this will be interesting.

But giving the fact the diagrams have been so accurate and have followed the construction plan thus far leaves us with the obvious that there isn't much place to build additional levels. For the Burj to reach or pass 850 mark it would take another 3 or 4 levels at least or a quite large extension to the pinnacle. If there were any changes to the 819m plan it think we would have seen them by now. We are not too far from the point of top out so whatever happens it will happen in the weeks to come.

I personally think that Emaar tends to surprise us.

Any height higher then 820 meters would deform the BD.

818 Meters off BD is a perfect height.

To beat One Dubai, you would need to deform the BD into uglyness. So a height extension is a no no.

What is the occupancy rate of all these buildings ? anywhere else in the world a new building goes up when it gets pre-sold or pre-let. Often when a few go up together...meaning 3 or 4......there is a glut of space for a while. In Dubai there seems to be so many cranes, I just wondered how many will be full of people?.....guess if it takes a while they can afford to wait ?......all this from the pockets of motorists across the world complaining about Oil prices. At last the move is on to become independant from Oil. Then I guess The Middle East hopes tourism will keep the dollars rolling in.

I have a question

I've just seen a (night) picture taken from the 63th floor of the Address. It's on the completed tread of the Address: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...153955&page=29

It looks down on burj dubai and the lake. Where the lake is going to be, i can now see round (dug out) circles with lines connecting then. Kinda like crop circles!
Are they making an underground parking garage there???

I think the bottom part of the burj is the most attractive external bit of the tower.

BTW I think the popularity of this tower is in recession as the credit crunching Nakheel Tower thread opened.

no matter what happens, i still think the Burj dubai is a far better tower then the Nakheel Tower. especially by design

The Burj Dubai is so much more beautiful because of it surroundings. Downtown Dubai is a whole area with the BD as middle point. The perfection of architecture.

Have you ever seen the older models and renders of this project? They were totally different than what we have now. Give Nakheel time, they will redesign the project several times. I can imagine that we will see from now on on every cityscpae a different model of Nakheel harbour and Tower.
