According to plan relised last year that correct. They will lift spire in five jumps and they will be finnished in about 30-35 days.

Actualy they have nothing to build anymore...

They have nothing to build, you sure.

Maybe except tiers 23A 23B 24 25 26 and 27. Other than that, yeah they have nothing else to build. Look more carefully next time, the remaining build will be quick, but not that quick.

Hi all.

Right on Dennis - nice update.

The pinnacle we see at the top IS the 1.2 m. dia. - 21.3 m. long tier 30.
The 7 - 2.135 m. long fins on tier 30 are set on the pinnacle every 3.2 m. rotating clockwise 30 degrees as they ascend. The first fin at the bottom of tier 30 faces 300 degrees (opposite the crane). The top fin faces the crane at 120 degrees - the 7 fins rotate half way around the pinnacle - 180 degrees.

The transition we saw on the ground in the shots from OTR was from tier 29 at 1.35 m. dia. to tier 30 at 1.2 m. dia. After it was welded up top that transition is just above the top of section 22 as seen in pics a week ago. From there to the top of what we have now is the full lenth of tier 30(~12 to the top of section 22B and ~9 more on top of that).

Furthermore the bottom fin can be seen in the pics by Dennis today facing opposite the crane. There is 2 fins missing where they have the welding platform set up around the pinnacle about half way up tier 30. The top fin facing the crane can't be seen in todays shots but can be seen in the shots by Dubai_Boy 2 days ago.

That top fin is just under the 1.5 m. dia. top platform. I imagine they will be welding that on in the next few days and attaching the handrail with the monorail for the lights. The housings for the lights are quite large so perhaps they will put those up too.

Then we will be set for the first stage of jacking - woohoo !

All these tiers are tiny, and nothing special.
We shall see, but i am sure that we will see topping out in about a month or so...

What's Behind Those?

I've been constantly intrigued by all of intricate scaffolding, safety nets, ladders and other temporary 'stuff' hanging off all the high steel in the close up shots, but what is going on inside those long vertical scaffolding structures that are covered in fabric? They go up 3-4 levels and are covered in canvas or something. Currently there is one that is green and one brown and you can really see 'em in Dubau_Boy's pix from yesterday in post #11020? Are there temporary construction lifts in those or stairs or what?

Should be stairs and are covered for safety reasons (obviously)

... oh, and that "brown" safety net is also green as the other one, just been there for longer, therefore way dirtier

just a technical question. are they putting the next parts of the spire on top, the existing part being jacked up and new segments put beneath, or maybe the whole spire is already put together inside the building, and will be jacked up as a whole while the construction of the rest of the tiers proceed? the first option i strongly doubt...

You may be correct now that they have ~40m. up above the jacking equipment.

The jacking equipment is at 692m. From there to the 818m. floor of the top platform is 126m. From there down to the 585m. top of the concrete is only 107m. There wasn't room to do it all in one lift. Also the plan clearly shows a primary and a secondary lifting block. Also the schedule clearly shows 6 stages. Both of those are well over a year old so things could have changed.

We will have to wait and see but now that the top is 40m. above the jacking equipment there is room to have the pinnacle pipe assembled up there all the way down to the pinnacle pipe base. If that is the case they wouldn't have to add under what is already jacked or reset the jacking lines to a lower spot once they jack some - they could do it all in one lift - but they will still have to do it in stages approx. 20m. at a time:
- As the pinnacle tiers are jacked up even with tier 22 the will have to attach the fins and coating where they weld.
- As tiers 24, 25, and 26 are even with tier 22 they will have to attach the wings and clad them.
- tier 23 wing is larger and will have to be attached after the jacking is done along with the rest of tier 22.

By the schedule top out is 6 or 7 weeks after the start of jacking but things have changed some so we shall see.
