OTR and other geezers posting epic pictures lately: THANK YOU for posting all off this good and amazing stuff!

That definitly deserves a nice well earned drink:

But one (mostly a rhetorical question) question: Is it 730 Meters as off now?

james. the steel frame is up to 720m. the spire or pinnacle is about 730m. this section is actually the highest part of spire which will eventually be jacked up another 100m or so.

thanks!
Hi Harm.

The pinnacle pipe and pinnacle from its base to the top is 143m - El. 675m. to El. 818m.
The lifting equipment is at El. 692m.
The top of the pinnacle right now is approx. 38m. above the lifting point.
So if the entire pipe right down to the base is assembled the base is approx. 105m. below the lifting point.
The top of the concrete is at El. 585m. - 107m. below the lifting point.

To sum it up if the entire pipe is assembled up there right now it extends down to the concrete.

Some shots we have seen show the pipe down to tier 17 or 18 IIRC but none show clearly that it is down to the concrete. There is no way to know if it is all up there and therefore if the jacking will be done in one staged lift or two staged lifts - they will jack approx a tier or 2 at a time regardless to add fins, wings, cladding, etc.

One thing for sure is that there is room (just) for the entire pinnacle pipe right down to its base to be up there right now and therefore the possibility to do the jacking in one staged lift.

Only confirms my earlier suspesions.

Thanks for awnsering!

But one thing is mandatory for Imre/OTR/Syeadouf/Dennis or any other person in Dubai to do when this is topped off: Taking pictures from the top off the spire looking 450+ meters down to the roofs off other Supertalls!

Old Town Resident, thanks for sharing the light testing images.

Does anyone know if the lights are for the grand opening of the Burj Dubai, a topping-out ceremony, for an emirate-wide New Years celebration, or a combination of the above?

Thanks a lot for your long and detailed answer Fury. Amazing that the spire is currently in that deep into the steel section.

I don't think many people realise that.

I took a look back at the latest diagram of Calwulla, but it doesn't show that clearly (at least to me) where the spire is being assembled inside the steel section of the Burj at this moment.

Once it will be jacked up, a lot of people will go like: "hey! Where did those 100+ meters of height come from??????????"

amazing stuff

OK...so someone needs to hire a helicopter and get up there with a camera to see if the entire spire is within the steel levels- call it surveillance......

let's all chip in the money and volunteer one of our kind dubai local forumers for the task! : )

Hi sock.

It is the top of tier 30. The top platform has yet to be put on top of that.

On another note emaar has signed a contract with Kraken Opus for a book on the Burj Dubai. The main book will be 4.5m, high and will be housed in the Burj lobby. They will make (smaller I presume) limited edition copies and some to be auctioned for charity. Never before seen plans, pics, and content. More info at burjdubaiskyscraper.com and many news sites.

Man would I like to get my hands on a copy of that ...
