I don know, the crisis is a credit/banking and currency problem (created basicly by greedy bankpractices and easy loans but that neither here nor there), the UAE has huge actual resource and cash reserves, primarily Abu Dhabi but id think Dubai as well.

Their economy is not credit based to the extent that some others have became.

Few believe that Dubai is really in danger of defaulting on its debt. It is, of course, only one of seven emirates in the U.A.E.; vastly wealthier Abu Dhabi or other Gulf countries would almost certainly rescue their neighbor in the event of a crisis. In a proactive move, the U.A.E. recently announced plans to guarantee domestic bank deposits for three years and inject some $30 billion into local banks. As for Dubai, any potential rescue would be relatively inexpensive, considering the hundreds of billions of dollars sloshing around in the region's sovereign wealth funds.

Burj Dubai is probably the last project in the whole city that would go on hold

But would it not be possible that IF construction was postponed...
they may -secretly- add more height than planned?
Seeing as how they've done that -SECRETLY- all along...

Yes, is to far ahead to be on hold. Probably is already sold. Long live BD!

As for the new "fantasies", like One Dubai, Anara, Meraas Tower, I feel sory for them.

Even the "smaler" projects like Pentominium, Buej al Alam, Lighthouse Tower, Damac Heights, are in danger.

I don't know about the supertalls really under construction, if they be on hold or not.
(Princess Tower, Marina 101, 23 Marina, Emirates Park Towers, etc)

P.S.
I doubt Abu Dhabi and the rest will chip in ~300 bilions to finance Dubai's extravagant future projects. But they will help finish the one started.

Credit Crunch

The funding for this project is already in place. New projects may be affected, but conjecture about the Burj is misplaced.

Great pictures and contribution Dennis, OTR, Culwulla, Fury etc....keeps me going at work!

WOOOOOW. Sometimes we lose sense of the scale of BD, but pictures like this last one give us a much better idea.

What a magnificent structure!!!
