I don't usually have a fear of heights, but something THAT tall and thin would trip me out. (being in the spire)

Being on the top of BD spire freaks you out? its only the metal bending sound and squeaking bolts that scares people, which is nothing to panic about.

Crane man would be a better job for you then.

You will be standing on top of the human triumph over height.

It will probably be the most breathtaking view in the entire Dubai. I am curious whether there will be private tours to the top for say a certain amount of money.

I think only people allowed to access to the top of the pinnacle are staff and inpectors and aircraft warning people, not ordinary untrained people. But I don't know for sure, but if this is the case then highest we can ever go in BD is top floor of concrete structure

High folks - long time lurker, first time poster here. Thought I'd share these pics of the 328m SkyTower in Auckland, New Zealand, which topped out in '97. The derrick used to lower (among other things) the main crane boom is clearly visible. (Apparently the derrick itself was taken down in the lift after disassembly :-) ). The pic on the right shows the main crane lowering part of its tower (also visible are a couple of steeplejacks at the top of the mast). (By the way, early on in construction, it was rumored that for a box of beer, you could get a ride to the top of the tower in the crane-lifted 'person cage' that made at least one round trip a day (no 24 hour construction here!!!))

Am I to understand that the BD's crane will not rise much farther, and that the BD mast will somehow 'emerge' from WITHIN the tower?!?!

If I understood it correct, yes. Somewhat like a radio antenna.

Yep...In Croatia is everyhing fine too...

I think that I was read somewhere that on top of the Burj Dubai will be blue laser light like on WTC every 9/11...Is that correct?

Works fine here too. Greg Sang looks so different in business suit and without his helmet

Interesting how the commentator omitted the "J" in Burj, i wonder if that's more correct or an error. Probably the latter.

They will use a jacking method, the same way they constructed the spire of the Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

Just watch the first minutes of this video, and you will see what I mean.

Thx D=

Still a bit unclear tho' - the Taipei 101 spire is far more modest than the Burj's! Will the entire spire be constructed before jacking, or do the two processes occur hand-in-hand?
