Looks so barren around the tower. I hope some more towers get built around the tower and don't get put on hold or the Burj Dubai will look a bit lost with all that open space around it.

the design of the mighty burj dubai is never to have bldgs built near it. this is to allow its design to have landmark status. Set amongst 2sqkm, it will have large lake and mall at its base. all highrise are to be located away from the towers immediate vicinity. this is so you will be able to see its full 819m height instead of like in chicago for instance you only see top 200m of sears tower because of its CBD locaton. same for ESB in NYC.

Sorry off subject but since there's no activity with construction, might as well keep this thread alive.
We are worried about losing our identity and existence, not benefits

Sorry. But I can not feel sorry for United States since they were the ones that screwed up the world Economy!

The crunch is just starting to hit Dubai now. There was a delay but the big wave has hit this shore as well.

Dennis, you passed by too early ... a new beam was put on top later as well.

So yeah people, the new floor has started and the tip of the beam is higher then the tip of the spire. We have a height increase.

Maybe they want to jack the spire to it's final height on a particular date ? New Years Eve...or a special date in Dubai.....

this is not the U.S.'s fault. dubai was/is doing the same thing that we (U.S.) did. fuel our economies on a red hot real estate boom. NO economy can sustain its self that way. so whether the U.S. enters a recession or not (but we are) the bubble eventually pops!! the only difference is, the U.S. has a more diversified economy that can pick its self up when one part starts to fail, IT JUST TAKES TIME. dubai on the other hand has put its cards in only a few areas, tourism, real estate, and construction. unfortunately you need other industries to support them, because they don't exist if you dont have any body living there permanently and not just having your vacation house there. yeah people live there now but what happens when all the construction stops?? they leave and the real estate boom makes living there impossibly expensive, so that leaves tourism...which is subject to the whims of the global economy which includes more than the US, so dont blame this on the U.S. dubai needs to diversify its economy or else it will become a vast ghost town living on the natural waves of economic cycles.
