Does anyone know if there will be another highway built near BD, or if an extension will be made leading to SZR?

Anyways, how come the construction is slowing?
I'm guessing because of the financial crisis in the West and rising commodity prices.

Commodity prices are actually dropping which is good for most construction (except for oil which partially finances construction in Dubai). Steel prices in particular have dropped considerably in the past six months. Unfortunately buildings like this probably cannot take advantage of the price drops because they probably locked in material costs earlier on.

Dammit, 5 hours in a stupid bus everyday, driving from Al Barscha to Muhaisnah, in slowmotion in the traffic jam along BD, and I always miss the spectacular moments!!! Arrghhh!!

High anxiety as price surge goes into reverse
By Simeon Kerr in Dubai and Roula Khalaf in London

Published: November 13 2008 02:00 | Last updated: November 13 2008 02:00

Property agents say prices have plunged by as much as 50 per cent in locations where the highest rises have taken place, such as on Nakheel's reclaimed Palm Islands and in Emaar's developments around Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world.

The pace of the progress is always the fastest in the beginning. That new steel floor already has at least 6 beams on it, but of course from today the pace will slow right down...

If this thing was in Wales it would already be classified as a "mountain" - >2000ft

They're constructing it quick, good to see. ("O dammit, we forgot one floor before we can jack things up, hurry up guys!")

I don't know. Clearly an impressive single building, but the landscape around it looks unfriendly and desolate. There doesn't look to be any street life or central core.

It feels like once you leave the building, all you have to look forward to is driving past a bunch of contstruction sites and on to the highway. All enclosed in your car. Not my kind of place, I think.
