Burj Dubai will be:
I'll go for 'quite high'. ![]() Sorry, although it is prohibited in Dubai, I'm under influence of alcohol at the moment. |

Trying to disentangle the possible location of the spire from the possible location of the stairwell here - seems to be an opaque channel in DennisS' great shot earlier which I've tried to delimit below. I'm guessing this is the stairwell given its constant width. There's a nice sunlit area above the highest crane access point which guided my thinking.
![]() This really is the best phase of supertall construction, ain't it (secret height or not)? |

With all of this speculation on ultimate height, secrecy etc and what everyone is guessing is the amount of spire up there right now (70m?) does anyone think it is possible that they would put up additional steel floors? Basically add to the tiers we are all anticipating from the drawings on here - and thereby extend the overall height while maintaining proportions? So go a lot higher than everyone is assuming but in essence stretching out the whole top of the structure, rather than having an out of proportion spire sticking WAY up above what is the current floor design just to achieve a taller top out? Could they build additional steel floor levels and then jack that spire up through that puppy and then bring up more spire and weld it underneath for structural purposes?

Wow...that's an amazing pic that germantower posted
....what is even more amazing IMO is how thin BD looks on that pic...the medium part is maybe 1/3 of the Index , and the upper half (over 400m) seems to be even thinner than Rose Rotana hotel, which is just next to it (on the left), and looks tiny compared to BD, despite being 333 m tall...but that's less than half the current height of BD right now . @Culwulla: I think that all buildings between 600m and 1000m should be considered "Megatalls", and over 1000m up to 5km "Hypertalls" ...and over 5km should be called "Starscrapers" ![]() @Land Man: Sounds interesting what you're saying, though i really doubt that they will add additional steel floors...they would have to change the static for the tower, which would surely take a lot of time & money...so its quite unrealistic, but who knows, in Dubai everything seems to be possible. Yeah I noticed that in the vid too. Cool that Cul's diagram made it! When it zooms in you can also see it has a 3d depth to it too. Dimensions and other things move in depth compared to the building on "paper". Neat effect
