The Rest of 22A - 24

Fury, Yes the top platform should be assembled before they hoist it up - that continues to be a mystery. There are simply parts missing.

I'm also wondering when the rest of the steel for Tiers 22A to 24 will go up- If I am reading these diagram's correct they are incomplete now...because won't they need that base of support before they start jacking up Tiers 25 through 27 since it appears they are going to also be attaching the upper curtain wall cladding in addition to the spire when they jack that monster up...can they do that structurally with the tiers underneath not completed? I guess that space right now permits greater travel for the crane....

Well it is not a 'mystery', but they just still have to assemble it before jacking. So first the top platform, before that no jacking.

Tiers 24-26 are very small compared to 23 so those can be attached to the spire and just hang in the air. They will be lifted as prefabricated elements I guess; 3 pieces for tier 24, 2 for 25 and 1 for 26.

The platform floor that is supposed to be 1.5m. dia is not up yet either. The floor is 15 mm. thick so it would have to be hoisted by the crane I would think. Another point is, the handrail that has to be put around the platform no matter how much they redesign, is not there.

I would think the top platform would be finished completely before it is jacked up above the cranes reach. I just can't see workers climbing the pinnacle internal ladders while carrying parts and pieces so they can install them after jacking.

I hadn't noticed that the one beacon wasn't aimed properly but other than that I've got to believe the top of the spire is complete. It makes no sense to install temporary brackets for the lights and to have to install them twice so I believe they are very close to where they finally will be. The I'm never quite figured out why they were going to install the narrow platform, it wouldn't have looked right since it would have created a visual "bump".

Bottom line, I personally believe the top of the spire is ready for jacking.

it starts to look like a "completed" city finally, not just like one big building site, as seen from other angles.

You may be correct but a couple things ...

1 - There will have to be a handrail around the platform if people have to go up there to service the beacons. That is bolted by the plans but it would still be a bitch to carry parts up the ladders to install the rail after jacking.

2 - The plan for a 1.5m. dia. platform on top of the 1.2m. dia. tier 30 pinnacle is meant to look like a "bump" IMO. I thought it looked good.

3 - I hear you on the beacon supports. Thing is the plans show the beacons sitting on the top of the monorail outside of the handrail.

4 - The BMU monorail is to be mounted half way up the 1.1m. high handrail. It will have to stick out from the pinnacle below so they can clean. The plans show it 640 mm. out from the 1.2m. dia. tier 30 pinnacle which makes sense for them to get down to the larger dia. pinnacle tiers below.

Here is some reposts of the top access platform.

As I have said they could very well have redesigned it but with the access hatch if they make the floor only 1.2m. dia. (as it would be if it is completed up there) there is not much room to walk around to all 3 beacons. It will still be tight at 1.5m. I guess if the hatch and the 3 vents are up there it must be completed - less the handrail and monorail of course - but we have no pics from up there.

A shot from a helicopter ride from above would answer all questions. If we pooled our money we could send Dennis, OTR, Desert Diver, Altin, and Imre up for a ride at the same time - imagine the shots we would get ... I'm sure together they could talk the pilot into getting close and over the top.

Not necessarily pooling, but if the others would plan to go.... I would sacrifice myself and come along if one more person was needed to chip in for the flight

about the handrail and the beacons which will be fitted on them,

maybe the top of the spire will be the handrail itself, and the platform is already fitted 1.1m lower than the top of the spire so we can't see it, who knows?

and that would bring 819.1m back to 818...
