There's actually no need for a handrail, on many installations where access is required infrequently sometimes only a safety harness and lanyard are used in place of a handrail. Not saying that's the case here but...

I'm not sure exactly what the minor rev will be used for, the diameter is so small anything hanging from it would probably only have one attachment point. On many structures the spire is not accessible for cleaning, why should it be any different here? In the worse case someone could repel from the top (I'd volunteer!).

Just my thoughts without any direct knowledge, my thoughts are just based on my experience.

Some great thoughts guys.

My thoughts are just based on what I interpret from the plans. They show a monorail that is part of the "guardrail system to be engineered for BMU monorail loading". I presume there will be a Building Maintenance Unit that will use the monorail to get all the way around the pinnacle and will be able to hang down to the start of tier 27. This is the same idea as the other dozen (?) or so BMU's that hang from extendable crane arms to clean the structure. Apparently this structure's pinnacle is to be cleaned along with the rest of the cladding.

They have followed the plans so closely I just think they will follow them for the top platform too. As I said you guys have some great thoughts on possible revisions. We shall see when all is said and done.

Yeah, I miss him too

I've got a good feeling about that jacking will start next week.

Good job, the cladding look so sandy and dusty. I bet Dubai haven't had much rain since the construction on burj dubai began.

Last week it already rained 3 times or something... Including this morning!
But indeed, very dirty... No problem during the constructing time but too bad for the photographers!

Edit - for the pessimists: check the cladding in the first pic, it's still going

Those are sick Dennis, some of the best so far.

When the Burj is finished and the thread activity fades, some skyscraper fans will fall into depression

Too right SirAdrian - once my country's tallest building was complete, my interest in it fell away greatly! Oh well - there's bound to be another construction marvel to obsess over after the Burj!
