At first this sounded a bit like a witty response to me... such as: a 404-site proves excatly the double height in meters...

But now the mentionned link to www.arabianbusiness.com is working and telling, that the "skyscraper's final height was set to be 808 metres, or half a mile..." - but that had happened back in 2006, when this anonymous architect left the company! So perhaps mods should wait before changing the thread title, I suppose.

What's new there? We knew that the tower was suposed to be 808 meters. the increase to 818 happened in Summer 2006, probably after that guy left SOM.

There's NOTHING new on the article, not for us regulars here anyway.

I think the same, its only an article and nothing seems to be official as of today !

I assume official data will be finally revealed at the time the tower tops out !

So the mods wont be changing the height on the name tag until the OFFICIAL height from EMAAR is released right?

BMHT: but there is already a guesstimated height tag of 819m.

I still go for 888m

I dont have photoshop to see how proportional 888 would be, but would be interested to see.

So 819 or 808 meters, final height of Burj Dubai ?

Please not again. Height was changed upward to 818 meters since summer 2006.

Yes but more concentration and paying attention essential.

Theres more to a girly life, like learning a bit more about construction, and looking upwards now and again to see that there is actually a BD up there

From the article:

“Every month we found we could go higher and higher. Even while we were building the thing. In fact we know we could have gone even higher than what we've built. We found that once we got to a certain height, astonishingly all the forces got smaller not bigger."

Pretty amazing.

Slightly off topic, does anyone know what the temperature will be like in Dubai in mid-January? I've got some free time and fancy a warm(-ish) holiday with some nice views.

Also, I would be bringing my camera gear along and would like to work out the best vantage points before I go. Can anyone suggest great locations to take in the tower? My widest lens is a sigma 10-20. Longest zoom is a Nikon 70-300.

Thanks.

Are those all on ground level? I've seen some photos from high up on hotels, etc.

One part is surprising: who had guessed Tower Palace Three in Seoul as a precursor of Burj Dubai! Didn't we think about an evolution from the design of Grollo Tower for the BD?
they used the system from "Tower Palace Three" because they found out that they could go really high with it. it's cost efficient and the design handles vortices very well. and if u look at the floor plan its perfect for residential and hotel use.
