Hi all.

The Arabian Business article .........

C'mon guys - the disgruntled dudes info is from 2006.

One thing that is good though - some confirmation on the previous design before the last revision - 808.

IMO this thing is going to be 818.0m. as the current plans say as measured from the floor of the Ground level to the floor of the top access platform.

The CTBUH measurement after completion may be 819.1m. or 824.1m. if they include the top guardrail and the Concourse level but that does not change the 818.0 as measured by the current plans.

We in here have the insider info over the general public. I can imagine that pisses off Emaar to no end ....

So .... - they have done a test jack of 50 cm. I wonder what the minor problems were that they had to address ?

Anyway - they must be close to sorting out the problems (I hope) and therefore jacking is right around the corner. (surely .....)

It must get annoying repeating all that info, Fury, but I hope newcomers are listening!

No one in the know (you and cul mainly) seems surprised by anything, so I'm pretty confident in the 818 m plan. I'm excited for the top out to see both the informed news articles and the bullshit ones that say that the "mile high tower" has been built.

I also want to see the reactions of my peers that have very little idea that the earth has a newest man-made high point.

Is there a source on that test jack? If they're ready to test, it means the real thing is very soon. YES!

This from emporis.com describes Tower Palace Three in Seoul Korea, forerunner design for Burj Dubai:

The structural system is a megaframe consisting of a concrete core bound to concrete perimeter columns through an exterior belt wall.
- The building's shape is formed by three oval lobes joined together, and was designed aerodynamically to tame the effects of wind pressure and building sway.
- The tower's aerodynamic design was so efficient that its stability in high wind exceeds international standards and no additional damping devices were needed.
- The owner has allowed engineers to use the structure for research comparing long term elasticity, creep, and shrinkage of the concrete walls versus the concrete columns. So far the comparison between projected and actual behavior has been favorable.
- The foundation mat was built using innovative self-compacting self-consolidating concrete. This reduced casting time from 48 to 12 hours.
- Tower G is South Korea's tallest building.
- Designed by Adrian D. Smith, FAIA, RIBA Design Partner at Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP.
- This was the world's tallest all-residential tower in the world for a brief period during its construction, surpassing the previous record-holder Trump World Tower in New York City. 21st Century Tower in Dubai was topped out later but finished sooner, claiming the new record by 5 meters.

Loving the new pictures of the Burj from various points accross Dubai. Interesting to see it in the context of the city.

Although it's hard to decide what I like more the Burj or the Lamborghini...

There's only one Burj Dubai, while Lamborghinis are way to many around ....

As great as the photos are, is it really necessary to repost them? It would be as effectice to refer to the post number. It gets really frustrating looking at the same pictures again and again.

Hi everyone!
I was the source of the test jack, been at the site today for a short visit. Didn't get it into the tower, too bad, but got some interesting info and saw some very interesting pictures.

I don't have too much time now and I cannot say everything, will post some pictures tomorrow, but I can say it will be 818.0 meters. No doubt about that, it's decided a long time ago and nothing will or can be changed at this moment. I said it wrong, the test jack was only 50 mm. and was alright. It has been done a while ago and I also know what they are waiting for at this moment: on tiers 22 and 23 first all the cladding needs to be installed, because after jacking the crane is not able to install it. So that's the delay. Hopefully it will start before the end of the year, but it's waiting for the cladding..

Some pics tomorrow!
