Dubai doesn't have flood control system yet? Any city should have one even they got very little rain just for safety reason.

We have drains here. Problem is, a lot of them don't actually drain anywhere. So when it rains a lot, the drains get full, and then they send round a load of tankers to empty them of water afterwards

whoever created this render must have thought the transition between concrete and steel were to be visible. (or maybe this is one of the early designs?)

look at the current status of the building and at the render and answer the question yourself.

BMHT, thats an extremely old render
you can tell by the design of top part past the "buttresses," its no longer a flower shape like that

I'm fully aware that is an ANCIENT design, even Jesus probably saw that design. But that flower shape is horrible, the current design can't get better I think. After years of filtering dirty designs they finally came up with the ONE.

Nicely spotted helghast! On floor 168, if I'm not mistaken... Until I turned up the brightness, I mistook the pinnacle for the (thin) brightly-lit column to its right (d'oh!).

Yep see it there too. Cool!

Parallel on the image to the lowest green safety net surrounding the stairs for the workers.

Pretty amazing.
I didn't read the article yet, but are they honestly that ad-lib about the engineering? The tallest building in the world and they're just kinda adding on more and more to see when it'll fall over? Hehe...

I hope so, it all depends on the cladding (problems). As I said, jacking will take place in 8 stages during 5 to 6 weeks. So if it starts, we can count down!

Today's pics:

Cheers.
