Man... that would be disappointing if true. Most of us thought that if it wasn't going to be 819 it would be taller, not 50 meters shorter.

That can't be unless there is a major problem. Everything points out that it will be 818m. Everything we see AND everything we know from drawings (also from the latest drawings I saw at the construction site itself). So don't panic please.

Disappointing ? Disappointing! 770 meters... damn they are stupid or what??? How can they built a small thing like 770meters? Even i could do better in my spare time if they let me 770 is not even worth mentioning... woudl be so terrible then they stop increasing height now...

There's no press release on emaar.com to help us make sense of this (and their list of releases appears very up-to-date). Does the radio station you referred to have an online archive of its broadcasts OTR?

Burj Dubai topped out.

The Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world, appears to be nearing completion as workers add an antenna with a blinking light. Samsung Engineering and Construction confirmed its workers had started adding the antenna to the structure.
Emaar, the developer, is meanwhile keeping the final height of the tower a mystery, but many have speculated that it will rise well over 800 metres.

Hey here is an extract from an article I was reading....some famous Malaysian guy is the assistant director for emaar on the Burj Dubai project....

"Every consultant and contractor working on this project has been asked to sign a secrecy-undertaking to make sure the dissemination of information is controlled," Melaka-born Nor Shaharom told Bernama at his temporary office nestled at the foot of the under-construction skyscraper.

"The actual height is still a secret. It'll be made public maybe a day before the opening," he laughed, venturing an answer after constant prodding about how tall the building would be.

Well maybe they mean it is topped out, the top is finished and on top of the building. However, it needs to be jacked up to the final height.

So does topping out means that the top is finished or that the final height is reached? Burj Dubai is interesting in this case...

Yeah probably Dennis, i can't imagine it remains as it is.

I remember that some forum user experimented with various spire lengths using image manipulation, and a spire toward ~870m looked significantly better than ~820. I think they haven't made the esthetically best choice on the top, but maybe there's a structural consideration behind that.

Calm down guys, can we take this article really serious? I don't think that they will left the spire as it is.....we saw pictures with decorative fins attached to the spire the ones to which the arrows show...

on this picture.

we all know that the last steel floors are just half finished so when the other half is finished the fins wouldn't be visible anymore,(so why would the attach those fins to just hide them inside?) also the higher the spire gets the thinner it is, why should they build it like that just to hide those "spire setbacks"? And the spire is still way too thin for this building. So i don't believe this articles and rumours coming up.Maybe its just shit the media is releasing and or Emaar is trying to punk us.

Agree.. If there is no major problem, they should at least jack it until that lowest hatch reaches the highest steel floor level. Maybe they were meaning that no more floors will be added and no more attachments will be made to make it higher?

The construction is very impressive, but how will used the terminal part of the tower? Last floors seem very little.

The fact that they have enclosed a section of the spire with a temporary enclosure and added a connection between the crane and steel structure where they did is interesting. They obviously are not going to raise the spire anymore in the near future, maybe the announcement was true and this is the final height?

Strange things are happening!

look carefully at Imres update, they attached a setback on the spire which will be on a higher altitude than it is now, this speaks for a further jacking.
