Maybe the 60 cent part..You see it at several companies in Holland as well. People fly in a bunch of people from India and they come here just to work, work and work. If they are off they don't have anything to do or spend. I guess those workers seriously have no other business in Dubai then work. Therefor they don't give a *** about working during Christmas... Anyone?

....Christmas...

I think they are ready to put the Spire at 818 meters... I count nine floors (the floors that are on the spire...) so, I think we can see the Spire at 818 in next days...!

Fury, is there any chance to get some drawings of the fountain?
We can see now it's taking shape, and it would be nice to see details of that project.
By the way: what are those steels floors rising over one wing?? anyone can bring us some info?

Hi all.

Merry Christmas to all. Ho Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum .....

Actually I don't drink but I thought it sounded appropriate.

Well a few of Imre's shots from the 24th show the third wing of tier 24 that is on the opposite side of the pinnacle pipe from the crane, is not up. Imre's shots from today show the other 2 wings are up but can't see the other side so not sure if all 3 wings are up yet. Once they are, the next stage of jacking should happen right away.

Pablo - I have no info or details on the fountain.
The Office annex (zone D) is getting the steel levels. This appears to be a revision in the plans from what I can tell. The plans show the annex to be about as high as level 6 on the main structure. The steel puts it to about as high as level 10 if they don't add any more on top.

These are really exciting days in Dubai! Topping out on 31/December/2008 would be a perfect timing...

Btw. what about the fins, that loop around the upper spire? I can't find them on Fury's tier-plans of post #13328. And what's their purpose? One could imagine that some cladding would be fixed to it, but if so, this should've already been done of course, before the partial lifting of the spire.

Hi Dan.

The fins are there for wind purposes and have been a part of the plans since many revisions ago. No cladding is/was to be attached to them.

Ah... thank U for the immediate response, Fury. "Wind purposes" remind me of a rotating spire to gain some energy. That would be cool up there. And if they'd fix some lights onto the spire, BD would also be the by far tallest beacon in the world.
Impossible? Okay... it must be a statics issue.

The spire already has an aircraft beacon light on the tip of it. 3 of them infact.

Check out post #13171 to view a recent picture of the spire at night.

yes, looks like tiers 25,26 and 27 are attached to pinnacle.
they should be jacked up 10m in next couple of days.
then i think last 20m will go up before NYE.

A lot of silence here today. No new update pictures too? Maybe no progress on top because of the holiday yesterday?
