damn, even as one of the harshest of critics for dubai, and burj dubai, I can't help but marvel at this feat of modern engineering. way to go dubai. This shot is actually quite flattering for dubai

I agree the CTBUH may come up with a different height depending on if they include a level and/or the beacons but that does not change the way the plans measure the 818.0m.

I also agree there could be a meter here or a meter there that may be different from the plans as we cannot go and measure the thing ourselves but I don't think so.

They have followed the plans exactly through tier 23 and now from 24 to 30 with the spire/pinnacle. The last (2 ?) jacking stages have to bring the bottom of tier 24 up to the top of tier 23 steelwork. I and others have done many detailed comparisons to the plans using pics throughout the construction that show they have followed the plans exactly.

IMO it will be 818.0m. as measured from the floor of the ground level to the floor of the top platform as per the plans.

My point was not so much the 818 height but the fact we have the plans that were to be kept so secret. I understand the need for secrecy in the first stages of construction but at this point, so close to top out Emaar needs to pull their head out of their ass and celebrate top out by stating the height to the rest of the world.

But as I said in my previous post they will probably not even announce top out untill well after the fact and even then continue with the "behind the sand curtain" crap much as the Soviet Union was "behind the iron curtain" decades ago.

End Rant ....

Happy Holidays all.

I agree.
It's not like some other building is going to magically rise right up to 819.5 meters as soon as Emaar releases the final height.
It has already been stated that the next WTB will come at least 10 years from now, if they were completely on schedule the entire time.

From a business perspective, launch of DSF makes far more sense.

I'm curious is those narrow and horizontal bars on the first mechanical floor glasses will be on all the rest of mechanical floor's glasses.

Incredible picture, showing the true scale of the building. When completed it will be far more impressive with the cladding all the way to the top!

I'm more impressed with the way Dubai looks in the 2008. First look at the photo made me thought I was looking at Toronto for few seconds, the city is truly transformed and of course Burj Dubai in the centre of it.

ZZ-II: I wondered the same thing about those horizontal bars that are attached to the first mechanical floor right now, but what exactly is their purpose? I mean they gotta have a function when attached to all the mechanical floors right?

Probably for those who say the building is boring

For me it isn't boring at all, and wouldn't be even without these details
