Burj Dubai Snow Model

Hi all, Happy New Year

I'm on holiday skiing in France now and I have been attempting to make a snow Burj Dubai, was going to post pics when I finished it but its just had a CATASTROPHIC collapse. It fell down/was knocked down yesterday while I was skiing, but I rebuilt it to its former glory, up to 1.8m tall today. I was having hogmany dinner when I noticed it was bending massively, so I knew I needed to fix it right away. But it fell down just before I could go out. It just kept on bending to one side all the time, no matter what I did, it would just keep on bending! I fixed it a few times today but it would just bend. I had a great spire all lined up for top out and everything. There is still some of it left, probably like 0.5m-0.75m that I could use and try again, AGAIN. I planned for it to be 3m high, would have been spectacular, but for this crappy french snow that might as well be water, plus it doesn't help when it RAINS in the alps, sake.

If you all want to see a 3m high snow Burj Dubai please help! Any ideas on how to make it a better way, other than piling snow(!), would be helpful.

Here's a few pics of it before collapse. I know it just goes up with no terraces, was going to cut them out later.

Thanks all

Awesome snow shots! I am curious where it is at? It is really beautiful geography and I like to go visit there someday.

Hi all.

Happy New Year all. It's only 9:39 PM here.
Thanks to all the photogs in Dubai keeping us up to date. Dennis - I for one will miss your almost daily updates while you were in Dubai.

Emaar has always been behind on releasing the current height so why would now be any different. I wouldn't doubt if they don't release anything when we top out. When they do they will still probably keep wallowing in this height secrecy crap. Oh well - we know the height. If Emaar wants to keep the general public in the dark so be it.

Don't know... I really appreciate your effort but when you post the current height right to the cm it's a bit.. mhh... senseless?!

I'm not a civil engineer but a mechanical one but i know that the tolerances in constructions are in a small cm range. So it just makes no sense to be too exact.

It's like rounding a calculation to 4 digits but then later after the whole process give 8 digits in the result.
I acknowledged the fact that things could have changed by small amounts per level/section many pages ago. We will only know for sure after completion when the CTBUH does their official measurement. Right now the plans are all we have to go on and they have been following them exactly. The fact that we have the plans puts us one up on any other structure being constructed so why not use them ? I don't think the heights in the plans have been deviated from at all. The top of the beacons are ~800.0 meters above the floor of the ground level and I only use the ~ because we are estimating the height of the pinnacle pipe compared to the top of section 23B.
Also - the pinnacle is complete - like Cul I think it looks fantastic.

Cooperchris. I thought I was the only one who's mind is permeated with the Burj. Good job on the snow models.

Thanks bjornl. I really enjoy posting on the technical stuff.

I think (hope) they will be adding the small wing of tier 23 to the pinnacle pipe right away and then jack again.

You tell me hence the question? I personally don't think it could withstand a 8.0 + quake.
