Burj Dubai at 818m?

The newly-installed spire on top of Burj Dubai is the peak of the tower.

on Monday, January 05, 2009

Burj Dubai is believed to have risen to its final height of 818 metres, according to one of the project contractors.

"We have been shown the final blue-print for our installation work and it states the height to be 818 metres," said the contractor.

The towering commercial and residential building reached the final stages of its construction when Samsung Engineering and Construction erected the spire on top in the third week of December last year. Since then, a beacon has also been installed on the top.

"The beacon is the last to be installed once a building has reached its height limit," said an engineer working on the project.
Emaar, the developer, has officially confirmed that the building has reached 780 metres in height.

Hi all.

We are at 800 meters to the top of the beacons.

Here is a repost to help illustrate.

We can see the bottom of tier 24 will end up at the top of tier 23 when we are topped out.

Press releases ............
Most are so full of errors and/or innacuracies they are more or less bullshit. We have known about the 819 meter height to the top of the beacons for 2 years now. We know there is still 19 meters to jack in 2 (?) stages. The fact Emaar wants to keep the general public in the dark and keep wallowing in all this secrecy crap is just more bullshit. I am wondering when Emaar announces top out and later the grand opening if they will still not reveal the height. The first the general public will know the height is probably when the CTBUH does their official measurement - providing Emaar even lets them measure it for frick sakes .........................

Land. I believe it was Dennis who talked to someone in the know who put the weight being jacked at 550 tons. Pretty impressive. The jacking is done by hydraulic jacks acting on the cables hanging down to the base of the pinnacle pipe. There is lifting beams the cables are attached to at the base of the pipe. I'm not sure if those beams will stay in the structure after jacking or not.

If you don't want to take the lift, how long will you go upstairs to the top?

When the guys base jumped from the top, they walked up to the 140th floor.

that took them 1hr 45mins, so I reckon walking up to 170-/+ floors will take you approx 2hrs - 15/30mins

Apparently the crane operator lives up there full time! Surely he must touch base with terra firma from time to time tho'...
