Old one? discussion few months ago? this image has just been uploaded to Google Earth so there is no way we might have had a discussion about it few months ago. And the picture itself is from few months ago, not earlier than last May. So we can consider it as new in Google Earth standarts, since the previous image was showing the first levels of the concrete structure from 2006 or 2005.

Burj Dubai is a testament to what is possible in our 21st century civilization

Wow--Post #14,000!

This thread is huge--probably the biggest on SSC.

I can't wait to see BD when it's finished. Dubai truly knows how to build tall and fast. Freedom Tower in New York started construction at about the same time as Burj Dubai, but it's only about 20ft tall now. Even my house is taller than that.

When explorers "find" Burj Dubai soaring in the middle of a desert thousands of years into the future (after the fall of our present civilization), the way the Pyramids were discovered by European explorers thousands of years after the fall of the Egyptian civilization, people will be thinking "what advanced civilization could have possibly built this?". I don't think another Burj Dubai will ever be built. It will remain a one-of-a-kind megastructure through the ages.

Congratulations to Dubai and all the hard-working people who made this dream-tower a reality.

Huh ..... - I live in Canada.

But I am very proud of the work I have done in breaking down info and different technical aspects of this magnificent structure.

This thing WILL be 818.0 meters as per the plans. They have followed the latest revision of the plans exactly. The fact that the CTBUH may measure it higher only means they may include another level at the bottom and the beacons at the top. That does not change the way the plans measure the 818.0.

On another note - they have backed off the rapid pace of jacking and attaching wings on the pinnacle pipe. The latest word on top out in the last week of Jan. may be accurate.

hi fury, ive changed thread title to 818m. i think the aircraft beacon rail structure wont be done to plan, so the small lights only protrude 1/2 meter of top of pinnacle, so safe to call height 818m. what you think?
latest pic by 234sale shows pinnacle stil, at 800m.
great shots
