ReyAyanami: if we look at such things, then we can also look at other technological stuff. for example as far as i remember concrete has never before been pumped up that high, the whole thing has to be much stiffer than twice lower buildings (due to how the lever works), etc, etc. and yes, you can play soccer way up other buildings, but hell, way up other buildings is half up burj. its like with all the height measurments, it depends what you are looking for. each of the towers have different targets to aquire.

as for now, the only tower under construction that can beat bd in... well everything, WILL be the nakheel harbour tower. taller, bigger (all the way up), more space, even more technomumbling for it not to fall.

Is there a list of companies working at or for the BD? (especially design-companies, besides SOM).
In the tags of this thread "german engineering" is mentioned. Which offices are participating? I only heard that a germany company delivered the concrete-pumps.. http://www.putzmeister.de
what else?

Would you also complain/argue that a Ferrari is not as big as a Land Cruiser, therefore not worth the price difference?

Then we should also ad "Austrian Enginering" because they build the formwork used to cast that concrete.

Your argument is wrong.

A Land Cruiser is bigger in size than a Ferrari and is more spacious inside. (no comparison there)

The comparison would be about a car that is bigger in size (burj dubai) but inside have less space then another one more small (sears).

is not about the price, but I'm sure you will not get the point

so if i tell you that when it comes to the space sears tower is only 14th, but surely way taller then the leading 13, it makes sears tower somewhat worse?

and no, sears tower is not smaller than bd, its SHORTER. and that is all.

and sears tower, as well as taipei and other were built in highly condensed areas, where you cant build to the sides, so you build up, just to gain more space.

bd however, is build for prestige, for the record, and the space is there only for the purpose of making money of the first two.

so i suppose that comparing ferrari to land rover is quite sensible. one is for space on wheels, the other one is for showing off =]

The one who didn't get the point was you: You people are falling into aples vs oranges comparissions. A Ferrari is fast cornerings and spirit driving and if it was as big as a Land Cruiser wouldn't be able to do that.

But hey, weren't you that was insisting a hole already filled with steel and cemenet can be in danger of being "filled" with water ...

Bottom line: You simply can't build a 800+ meters version of Sears, WTC, SWTC or T101

Yeah, since there aren't many of them in the first place.

BTW: Keep in mind that playing with tags may fall into the trolling category, and you know what happen to trolls: They get axed.

Cars ad buildings are not the same and you are right that is unfiting to compare.

I didn't start all this, I just said my opinion. I loved this project, but the truth is, none can deny it, that a year now a few dozen workers and 2 cranes are pilling up a thin, metal, uninhabitable space frame almost 200 meters tall on a thin tall building and everyone including me is saying un****ingcredible!!!!! every few meters! The observation deck is 400m from the "top" because the higher floors are habitable only by hobbits? Top floor 200m shorter than the architectural height? Total floor area 70% of 1 WTC tower? I mean WTF? I just cracked today...

I did not do that...

If you look at my last posts, I only corected the person who say that BD have 50% more floor area than Sears, even if if actually have 20% less. (I did not say that one is better than the other).

And I say to you that the Ferrari Vs Land Cruiser was a bad comparison in this situation, that's all...
