Thank you.
Agreed. This is the wonder of the modern world. I have been watching this thread with obsessive enthusiasm for two years. I hope to be able to afford a visit soon now it is nearly topped out.

I didn't know that all the North American regional headquarters of multinational companies were based in Las Vegas. I'm sure it also has one of the biggest air and sea ports in the world... and of course people used to live there for centuries like in Dubai...

No just joking, like Las Vegas, Dubai was just desert and some greater kingdom decided to build a wonderland, where no one used to live before...

Thank you, Imre Solt!

Nice updates right there!

This is a magnificent shot!

By the way, are these the lights that they will use for the fountains, if ever?

hey guys, while looking at the plans and renders from the BD I found out that the tower is now 805m tall +/- 1m

so, i would say..dequal is right. they've to jack all the other already installed glass panels to the top of the steel structure. ( 12m-13m )
i calculated and watched to the plans a quite long time...so i'm very sure

The fountains look almost done. When are they supposed to be functioning?
May be we’ll enjoy some pre-opening tests of the system, to see if everything works properly.

dequal marked a hight span of over 19 meters (6 windows x 3.2 meter), that would bring the spire to over 824m, if you are right. there must be something wrong
they should raise the spire only the hight of 3 windows (9.6 m), that would fit with 818 m total hight

Top-out questions

Looking into the CTBUH website and technical papers therein, a notation on top-out appears where top-out entails having "all structural members in place". In the case of BD, this may still be a few weeks away as the rest of the steel structures for tiers 22-23-24 still need to be built.

The event that is expected on Saturday will be attainment of the final height.

Is this the full top-out ? or can we say that there are two top-out events ? - the one on Saturday, and then another one when the final structural members are put in place a few weeks from now ?

As has been said here, the BD is a unique building - and may bring on some revision of the traditional definitions.

What comment do the experts have on this ?

no, not over 19m.it's arround 15m. because one windows is not 3,2m...it is ~2,5m according to the plans

CULWULLAs plan says something different, look:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3320/...01529ebd_o.jpg

each tier with a hight between 9 and 10 meter (9.6 exakty, because he rounded it to full meters), not 7.5!
that makes 3.2 m for each window. i think, EVERY window in the steel part has this hight

you know, now that i think about it, it might be!
i thought before that it was just an extremely tacky walkway, but it would make more sense if it were the lake
especially since there's railing dividing that and the sidewalk

:EDIT:
and the fountain too. i just noticed that.

Yes this is the BD Lake that they are painting/sealing at the moment.

Most, but not all of the fountain area in the pic also but impossible to show all unless from a height.
