Those lightning photos are AMAZING!!

And anyone who thinks the spire is actually crooked must be bonkers.

Structures of such a height could offer an interesting new way of producing energy...

I know what you mean but...

attaching a WINDTURBINE on top of the spire will be much more efficient, but then it will turn all the tourists off which isn't the nicest idea.

partly yes

I believe that the darker blue areas are painted like that to, as Hollie said, to give the illusion of the water getting deeper, but at the same time making the bottom of the lake hidden or invisible to the naked eye in order to conceal the huge fountain pumps and other bits of technology in that area.

I would say around 2m.

They have also almost completed the retaining wall all the way around the lake, so I would say within the next couple of months we should see some water, and maybe some fountain trials.

Exactly why would a wind turbine on a building turn tourists off? It would be an admirable thing in my books. Although for a building like the Burj Dubai you would probably need 200 to power it!

I would disagree I would suspect that once complete it will all be the same color. It’s the uniformity of the color that gives the impression of depth. This is the same technique that was used in the fountains at Bellagio in Las Vegas. Which is the same concept, technology and was done by the same company (WET Design) that is doing the fountain here

Are "lightening" and "lighting" British spellings for "lightning"?

Incredible, amazing photos, especially given that Dubai is in a desert and supposedly gets very little lightning:

Just think, the Burj Dubai may be a life saver. Had it not been built, there is no telling where these bolts would have hit.
