Now that the confusions seems to have ended I want to join in and say my congratulations for the T/O of Burj Dubai although secretly I wished it would get even higher - 888m would have been great, but 818m is still enough reason to be proud of such a masterpiece of engineering!

Simply awesome. I dreamed as a child that such towers would someday be built but I NEVER thought that they would be built in my lifetime. It's too bad the news won't report on this, even though it is more important than half the crap they blabber on about.

BTW, did anyone figure this: 17.01.09--> 1+7=8, 0+1=1, 0+9=9 which makes 8+1+9 or 819 which is the final height in metres! (Of course one can always make such calculations, 08.01.09 would have been even perfect of course, 26.01.09 would also have worked so it's clear it's just a coincidence ;-) )

Hi all.

I wonder whether emaar will announce top out to the general public at all ? The final height questions will be a serious threat to their secrecy escapade.

Oh ya - at the risk of being redundant ................

Congratulations to all of us on a magnificent piece of architecture!! It's been great watching this thing grow for over two years.

Here's a fantastic photo from today, courtesy of Flickr. Imagine how it's going to look when all the glass is installed!

What an amazing achievement. Burj Dubai didn't just take the record for tallest skyscraper, it smashed right through it. Over 1,000 feet taller than the Taipei 101. Incredible!!

I began to see this thread in May 2006, (more than two years ago) when the Burj was around 45 floors. Now is over 200! I see the first Imre's photos, the AltinD photos, the Seydafou photos, the first Culwulla's diagrams, also the discussion with dubaimegaprojects.com page (the guy always put a false height of the building).

I'm in Mexico, and when I began to see this thread (and the burjdubaiskyscraper.com), I get wonder. Now, Im almost 17 and this is a day I always think, and, Now we're here! We're watching the tallest structure in the world, the tallest building, the Burj Dubai Tower!!!!!!

Topped out! YES! Saw BD from a distance on my way to work and thought to myself, man this spire seems to be even longer now!

Great to read the facts here on SSC

This morning in Emirates Business24|7:
_________________________________________________________________
Burj Dubai all set for 09/09/09 soft opening

Inauguration of the world's tallest man-made structure to coincide with launch of Dubai Metro

Burj Dubai, the world's tallest man-made structure, will see a "soft opening" on September 9th this year in tandem with the launch of Dubai Metro, according to an industry source.
"The target is to have the event coinciding with the opening of the Metro on 09/09/09", a person close to the matter told Emirates Business....

....despite several attempts, developer Emaar Properties did not comment on the subject by the time this newspaper went to press...

...the 154th floor will house the office of the Emaar chairman...(?)

and so on
_________________________________________________________________

Underneath the picture:
"Burj Dubai has risen to its final height of 818 metres...."
