Question to Imre..

Imre, I heard that there are no roller-coasters in Dubai. Is this true?
If true, it must be because of the extreme heat, where people might pass out on roller-coasters, right?
Sorry for asking a question not related to Burj-dubai.

In the past days I've read a lot of comments about them...

I think we have to think to the people target the armani residences have;
if they are for western (especially european) guests, believe me, they're much much better than those of Burj al arab.
people coming from different parts of the world don't have the same tastes.
IMHO, for example, the furnitures of Burj al Arab are simply ghastly and kitch, showing off richness without taste.
On the opposite, that minimalist, dark, simple design seen on the Burj Dubai pictures is wonderful.
But this is just the opinion of mine - I admit that I've really classic european taste :-) - and I know that a lot of people thinks exactly the opposite of mine.
But I just want to let you know that that design is nice for a lot of people...
Yes it's just you ... and Armani's minimalist design has nothing to do with the Classic European design, which (the later) is as ghasty and kitsch as those of BAA's interiours.

However those levels shown in the picture are inhabitable so there will be no one to evacuate from there, except maintanance workers who might be there on duty. As for the rest of the tower, there are several emergency assembly rooms in sealed off and fireproof concrete shells. I think I remember to have read that some of the lifts can still operate in case of fire.

Nothing to do??? How many european houses have you visited in the last 20 years???

What do you mean with classic european design? Maybe that of 4 centuries ago?

Ok, maybe you have misunderstood what I mean with the word "classic", or maybe I've used the wrong word...
Anyway, what I mean is the design that rules in most of the homes in London, Milan or Berlin, now...

If you ask my grand-mother about that old style design, she would tell you: "even my grand-mother would have not furnished her house in that way!!!"

Anyway, I think you have understood what I mean.
There's a lot of people (not necessarily the larger part in the world, but I think it is in WE) who likes the Armani residences style and finds very ugly the BAA style...

Piers Morgan ITV - Dubai

Hi Everyone!

For those who missed the ITV one hour special of Dubai which screened on UK television a few nights ago, and for the majority of us from around the world who either had trouble with the link posted earlier to this doco, here is the documentary on youtube, split up into seven parts.

Here you go

Part One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCn8qjVVw_s
Part Two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a51gV...eature=related
Part Three: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW8FK...eature=related
Part Four: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bKaj...eature=related
Part Five: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE8VF...eature=related
Part Six: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBkzF...eature=related
Part Seven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9B6s...eature=related

Videos courtesy of Chelseathechamps (A Youtuber)
Enjoy

btw, for those just interested in the Burj Dubai segment, it comes in Part 3 where the host goes up to the 160th level (steel section). I think too we get a glimpse of the internal section of the spire.

Video on Dubai

Very nice TV program on Dubai.
But, I am afraid the bubble might burst due to the Global slowdown.
I do not think they are going to build any more super projects here.
Even Dubailand may not be built.
I hope I will be proven wrong.
Whatever happened to the Beaches? They are all closed due to sewer overflow and redtide or what?
Why did they build all these housing without building any sewer systems?
I just do not know.

The people who take pictures of this tower.. do they get paid by some local agency or emaar, or do they all just do it as a personal hobby?
