South Park was right, Arabs really do have a horrible sense of interior design aesthetics. Gold highlights and blue carpeting - EXACTLY as they said it in South Park. Somebody really needs to teach them how to decorate because they'll never get guests if all the interiors look like a ***** house.

Again - What Is It?

234Sale...

In the third photo you just posted there is a concrete structure in the lower left of the frame that is covered in black and has a grid like black flooring of some sort.

What is that going to be?...a fountain or something?

I asked in an earlier post and nobody responded (or I missed it in all the chatter).

Again - anybody?

Curious in Arizona.

Ciao

We are just talking about a specific building. The way you express yourself is insulting all the Arabs and it is not nice.

I agree with you Mithat.

To Krattle, we are not saying that arab tastes are bad, but different.
There's nothing wrong in liking the style of BAA!

The discussion is just: don't wonder if someone likes the minimalist design of Armani's residences. Some people likes it.

The target guests are different, the styles are different.

That's all.

BAA = Burj Al Arab ... and that "westerner" guy still don't get it that a Hotel room is supposed to be decorated differently from a residential apartment.

Maybe I should show him that horrible 20-30 million apartment in Manhatan that was recently bought by an ex high ranking Wall Street executive. Hotel or not hotel, If you think BAA is kitsch, you haven't seen nothing yet.

differently doesn't meen tacky.

First i heard about 7 star hotel and saw the exteriors i thought that interiors must be the best of its kind, very stylish, and with great taste. And i was suprised when i saw it too. But one think i must tell you. Interiors of baa are tacky, yes, but they are also very characteristic. When i saw that pics on previous site without reading i was sure its baa. When you see rooms with lots of gold, every color of rainbow, and mirror under the bed you can be sure that it is Burj Al Arab

I agree with you. I personally find the interiors interesting. The Hotel was designed by British Architect. Most of the non-Arab clients are British. Most of the Administrators are British. It is fair to criticise the Arab taste. We should keep an open mind.

I hope Dubai will build some sewer treatment plants and clean up the beaches. It would be sad if the tourists are chased away by stench in the air and filth in the water.

I still do not understand how people can spend $15M for an apartment and live in a hot desert city without trees and forests and streams and birds and squirrels. Drive 10 miles away from your home on your $1.5M designer car and you are in desolate desert. What will they do when all the oil runs out in 2010?

Las Vegas is a city in a hot desert.. Tourists from all over the world come there and million residents enjoy living there permanently ...

Dubai is definitely much more exciting than Las Vegas..

Aside from BD there are only two projects that are not on hold in BD development: BD and BD Boulevard Plaza.

Hi all.

The podium "landscaping' around the base has been extensively revised since the original siteplan from 5 years ago. The layout is still more or less the same but many details have changed. Landman was asking about the black tiled work near the office annex - definately not in the old siteplan. It will be interesting to see all the work around the base take shape.

The office annex addition is coming along nicely. In the other BD thread in the UAE section someone mentioned how it looked compared to a model. The model in question is the 27 foot tall one - I can't recall where it resides in Dubai. I have more than a dozen shots of it as it was built years ago. I hadn't noticed untill now that they have re-made the office annex to be taller in the last year or so.

Here is how the annex model looked originally.

Here is how it looks now.

They added 5 or 6 levels to it. We shall see if the 3 levels they have added to the actual annex is all they will add or if more are planned. They have also removed the elevated walkway between the annex and the mall.

As of yesterday by the looks of Imre's great shots there has been no work done at the top of the structure. Things to be done yet :
- complete the bottom half of tier 23 small wings
- attach the 19.2 meter high small half wings of tier 22
- erect the top 2 (of 3) sections of the larger wing (of 2) facing the crane of tier 22 - this will limit the crane's ability to rotate 360 degrees so it may be done last (the crane will still be able to reach any part of the structure as before - it just won't be able to rotate all the the way around)
- complete the cladding
The schedule shows 6 weeks from top out untill the start of the crane disassembly proceedure. Since 2 weeks have already passed they may not get all this done in 4 more weeks. Top out was behind this newest schedule anyway so I think there is yet another revised schedule out there.

The longer term stuff includes :
- crane disassembly proceedure
- complete the landscaping around the base of the structure
- continued work on MEP, finish, and fitout
- soft opening Sept '09 - part of the structure is scheduled to open - what parts remain to be seen
- completion and full opening Dec '09

Never ........ ?
- Emaar anounces to the general public the height of the structure
- Emaar allows the CTBUH to do an official height measurement and announce it to the world

I can agree a bit with your statement about the trees and scenery. I have lived in a desert in NM and it wasn't nearly as nice as the mountains a few miles away. One good thing about these two desert cities though, the architecture is fantastic!

Hi everyone,

Man I havenít been here in two weeks, I think itís impossible to read all the way back now but I see the Burj topped out and I have to say.. Damn it looks just perfect! For me this building definitely has the right proportions and when it is fully clad somewhere this spring/summer, it will look even better!

Lots of rubbish on the forum but good to see Fury still working on his analysis of the construction-to-come!

Cheers

that second photo by fury's mental. Where is that exhibition?

check this vid out: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cW8FKWdA6dQ

go to 6:35, the presenter guy asks who will be in that 160th steel floor, then the rich guy says office workers. ??? I thought none of the steel floors were only to be inhabited by communication and mechanical people, not office workers.

The City of Amazement..

Dubai is certainly the city of amazement..

The whole world depends on construction photos of Imre Solt to know what is going on and if anything is going on in Dubai.

Imre, if this is a hobby for you, what line of work are you in, when you are not photographing BD?

Also, one more question for Imre. is anything going on in Dubailand?
