LOL, do they really not know that we know, or are they pretending that this site and a fair number of press reports just don't exist?

www.burjdubai.com is still saying 688m, last updated on 1st Sep 2008

Dear Emaar, you might be interested to know that your building is 818m tall!

Out of all these, I think WTC towers were the most utilitarian, with maxinum floor area in every floor.

In comparison, the Burj Dubai look more like an eifel tower, with decreasing amount of floor space on higher floors.
By the time the tower reach, 120 floor, the floor area has already shrunk substantially.
Most businesses will need few thousand square feet of usable space for any practical work.
Burj Dubai is more about hitting the record books than making extra floor space.
Great building. I hope they will find some clients to occupy it.

DON'T SHOUT AT ME!!!

I must admit I have some empathy with EMAAR. 'Topping out' is a technicality, albeit a major one for us enthusiasts and engineers etc. But it doesn't mean an awful lot to the general public. They will only get really excited about this building when they can see the lifts, the view from the top, the luxurious apartments etc.

If EMAAR were to announce that the building was 'finished/topped out', but at the same time say no-one is allowed inside to see it, then I think interest might fade somewhat and detract from any official event later.

If I was EMAAR, I would do the soft launch, invite the world press and media and cameras and prospective tenants and have one hell of a party! This is the tallest building in the world, it is bound to attract a huge amount of attention!

So, in the meantime, I would try and avoid too much speculation about the completion to avoid disappointment.

*hides in corner*
