All you need is a pic of just 6 years ago.

Do these skid marks on the road belong to the white car on the right of the photo? I guess whoever did that wants to destroy his tires really quickly :-P

Well, it's not exactly the same area as Burj Dubai, but here is a famous photo from 1991, taken from the World Trade Centre looking along what was then called Abu Dhabi Rd (now Sheikh Zayed Rd)...

and here's the same view from 2005

The building on the far left is Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Burj Dubai would be around 2km behind and slightly to the left of that building.

So yeah, quite a bit of change, and since 2005 it's only accelerated!

Attended a presentation yesterday here in Dubai, organised by the Society of Engineers. Enjoyed an excellent presentation on the Burj's Facade system by the Architectural Firm Hyder.

Then I guess you can tell us, wether those tube things atttached to the cladding of the mechanical floors have any functional use or they're really just a design matter?

Nice picture. Too bad the "lake" still looks like a damn swimming pool though..eek.

It would be nice if they could make the water look more like this by digging deeper:
