many times I helped them to withdraw money from an ATM , they got 900-1200 dhs/month( 1 USD=3.65 AED)

The smallest what I have heard 5-600 dhs/month ,average is around 1000 dhs/month. ( helpers )

Some companies pay 1400-1600 dhs/month.

Not so much but they are happy because still better than in Pakistan,India ,Nepal,Bangladesh or Vietnam.

the 55 euro/month what the belgian article said, impossible.

Spot on Imre, thats what they earn...... im staying in UAE for long enough to know that, Dubai is feeling it but not that much..... for the tower, when ever a buliding tops out the rest of progress always looks slow(considering the pace of structure.. actually topping out). I feel the cladding is on in exactly the same pace as before, its just we want it to finish fast ( Anxiety)...... for those who has news drought here's more on whats happening in and arround the tallest on 17 feb 2009 http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/Traff.../10286207.html .....

The dark blue looks better than the turquoise in my opinion. The dark gives an impression of depth even if it is the same. Might of been better if there was a gradiation between the colours and for it to not be quite so severe. Surely there will be times in the future even when they will be unable to run the jets? For maintenance and such-power cut or tech problems. Does anybody know if they will put any greenery in the water? Water Lillies, reeds etc? Make it look a bit less like a giant swimming pool and more like a parkland pond.

Imre, your wide lens shots are amazing! For a second I didn't know if it was Gerald's photos or yours. Although I haven't seen the lake filled with water, but I can imagine it and it must look great in reality.

I don't quite understand why the western media is singling out Dubai has having problems with the current mood in the economy.

Homes where we live are selling at a fraction of their original purchase price (sometimes a third of what was paid for a few years ago) due to foreclosures.

Its a great time to buy your first place, ANYWHERE it seems.

What does that have to do with the construction?

Does anyone know what type of water is used in these pools? Is it fresh water or salt?
To answer someone's question earlier, I don't believe plants will be added for filtration/cleaning purposes and especially if somehow the water is chlorinated.
I think there's no question that this whole area is striking and has a 'wow' factor but it's just a lot more Disneyland than Venice. There's a lot to be said about nature.

My guess was salt-water with underwater plants and interjection of different species to develop an ecosystem. I don't think that is possible with a tiled-floor. Also, the water looks like it has chlorine in it.

FANTASTIC shots of the water!! Thanks for all the different angles. Although I think it would have looked better to have the colors a bit closer on the spectrum I still think it's cool, especially around the fountains.
