agreed roccocancun. I consider dubai to be one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Its surrounding desert and elegant buildings of which pierce through the clouds heighten its superiority to all other cities.

I bet you are judging it dark based only on the last pictures posted.

Yes, these pictures are dark, but they were shot like that on pupose.

Cheers,

Just stopped by to spill your guts over something you dont know anything about? It seems you have no clue whats going on in Dubai

I dont know... well, Marina will eventually have some 200 towers, Jumeirah Lake Towers roughly 80 towers, there are 30 or so in Barsha and Media City, Business Bay I would estimate some 100 or so, the strip along SZR with Emirates Towers and such I would think are another 50 towers. Also, a lot more towers to come in Dubailand and Waterfront.

Now do the math

I've got a 18-200mm and a 10mm fisheye. Standing on Souk Al Bahar bridge my 18mm barely fits the Burj in upright format. BD is some 350 meters away from the bridge (just checked in Google Earth). I assume you have a "normal" SLR and not one with full format sensor (such as Nikon D700 or D3 or some high-end aequivalent from Canon). I got a D300 with "normal" sensor size which always has a crop factor of 1.5 times the focal length compared to full format. To get it short: If you have a full format camera / lens it will fit from Souk Al Bahar bridge with 24mm, otherwise not You'd probably have to maintain a distance of some 500m or so.
My 10mm fisheye makes the Burj look chubby
My brother visited last week and he has a normal 11mm lens without much optical distortion. He was able to fit the Burj from Bahar bridge in landscape format

Didn't do anything, this area is out of my jurisdiction.

And Desert Diver, what your brother does not have a fisheye? You have a fisheye, Flo (dubaiflo) has one that he LOVES to use it too so: What German would he be? (Ok, old joke from UAE forum between me and Flo )

Speaking of lenses and Burj Dubai, the last two times I've been in the Souk area I had the wrong lenses with me and couldn't fit even half of it within the same frame. Also the last distant panoramic shots I posted on Sunday were from some 5 - 6 km away. I used the heavy 70-300m lens and yet those were taken at 100mm zoom, so still the wrong lens choice.

Do you all think 9th September is do-able, i guess they have no choice once they announce it like that.

They must (hopefully) be doing a lot of interior work, because outside has not changed for a while now.....

forget the September, everything delays what is Emaar , Burj Views handover postponed by 1st July, Mall Hotel 28th June so I think September 2009 almost impossible.

Trawling back through my pics, I'm surprised how few I have from the Bahar bridge in landscape format.

Here's one from December (lens is the Canon 10-22mm @ 10mm I think, camera is a 300D, so this is equivalent to a 16mm full frame):

Amazing how fast they build the lake with the fountain. I hope cladding and interiour is finished also so fast. But Imre is right. I also dont believe they complete BD in 9/9/09.

Yup - the lake and fountain have really progressed quickly.

Here's another shot from December 16th - just 10 weeks ago:

Unfortunately that is the main reason why so many are unimpressed with the way things are looking. Obviously quality was sacrificed for the sake of time.
Looming deadline and depleting financial resources might have forced Emaar to cut corners.
