As to a permanent measure to get rid of the sand... I can't see one... its going to be a hell cleaning this lake when it’s finished.

There are vacuum cleaners for normal pools. Here I recommend having something like those machines which are used in the Mall for fixing the Ice Rink

Well, rather five of them. It would still be a full time job, I guess...

They should leave the sand where it is and put some more in, it would look much better

Dont know how fountain equipment would cope with it

I have to disagree with you. Have you look closer to the sand part with water on these pictures? It looks really dirty and disgusting same with other man made lakes near Burj Dubai area. Only man made lake look much better is Dubai Mariner City because they digged it much deeper and make it look more realistic. Unfortunately they will not dig it Burj Dubai Lake deeper... Only better option just to get some vacumers to keep that lake clean.

did engineers foresee sand storm problems with new lake? surely they can just send in some small vacuum device aka creepy crawly? just lots of them.

The Dubai Marina is a marina, not a lake, who knew?

The marina was not constructed deep for any aesthetic purposes, it was constructed deep for boats. Burj Dubai Lake is not going to have yachts running thru it.

What's up with that attitude? That marina looks little too big to be marina since they got a lot of open water between the docks. It looks like lake or whatever you name it.

By the way, I read somewhere on this thread that man made lake will have some boats around the fountains too.

Hi all.

Great shots Gerald and OTL.

Must be great to be on your lunchbreak right beside the BD Gerald. Disregard the haters - they are always gonna be there. I for one want to say that I am one of the people from afar that appreciate you and all the photogs in Dubai that keep us updated on almost a daily basis. Because of you photogs, digital cameras, and the internet (that includes forums like this) it is almost like being there - fantastic !

As far as the sand in the lake I'm sure the problem has been figured. I would think boats with suction rigs will suck the sand onboard then go offload it somewhere to be trucked away, will be used.

Here is some old site aerials where North is up in both shots:

Last quarter of 2002 - just before any earthworks done for the BD boulevard

Dec 2004 - raft poured 3 months prior and first core wall pour 3 months after this shot

I really find this early work as interesting as the concrete work. The surveying, excavation, piling work, raft pour, etc.
I have only ~ 50 shots between these 2 shots. What a shame ...
Henrik - help !!!

Why don't people at least read the last page before repeating information that has already been posted and discussed?

I'd call it a paddling pool not a swimming pool.
