JUST the concrete contributes 110,000 tonnes to the weight. I have no figures on the metal/cladding, nor anything else.

Interesting photos of sandstorms!!! I bet people in Dubai are annoyed by sandstorms because they have to clean up the messes every time sandstorms comes to Dubai.

Interesting in that video that the two cranes in the background are not weathervaning and are pointing in opposite directions - even with this much wind!

Yes Bro. I never knew and experienced sandstorm. I live in a city with mountains and jungle and creeks. If that's the case, seeing that it is so huge and catastrophic, how do they clean Burj Dubai Lake and all its glass cladding? And how often it happens? Once in one or two years?

Cheers!

Once again, such sandstorms as that happened recently in Riyadh (KSA), which pics were shown, has never happened in Dubai. Riyadh is in the middle of the desert, Dubai is a coastal city and the storm will never develop to that density and all of the sudden. Same as an hurricane cannot hit full force as far inland as let say Chicago, hence the paragon I used.

As for the cranes on top of Burj Dubai that were not weathervaning in the latest video, it was probably because the wind speed might have increased suddenly. I'm sure they were put on that position later.

i don't think so. every place has it qurks
tropical coastal areas have hurricanes, the mid west in the u.s. has tornados, dubai and the middle east has sandstorms, you chose your place of residence, so it comes with the territory.

Simply incredible. Thankfully I love the design too so size and beauty. Cant wait to see the base when the artificial lake is finished. It a great idea that should frame the building beatifully - particularly at night with the reflections. So many tall buildings seem to run out of ideas at street level and end up sitting in windswept no mand land. This looks to have avoided that with some great design. Man have I got to come and see this when it is finished!

We have to keep hope for some strong winds blowing from the see and into the desert.
